Phung Tien Palace relic through virtual restoration
The exhibition aims to help visitors learn about the architecture and spiritual life of the Nguyen Dynasty as well as the cultural, historical and artistic values of this period through a virtual reconstruction of the Phung Tien Palace relic.
Phung Tien Temple is one of the five important temples/shrines of the Nguyen Dynasty. Initially, Phung Tien Temple was named Hoang Nhan Temple and was built in the 13th year of Gia Long (1814), north of Trieu Mieu, to worship Thua Thien Cao Hoang Hau, the first wife of Emperor Gia Long. Later, this building became a place of worship for the emperors and queens of the Nguyen Dynasty. In 1829, Emperor Minh Mang changed the name to Phung Tien Temple; and in 1837, the king moved Phung Tien Temple to its current location, north of The Mieu.
Phung Tien Palace was destroyed, only part of the foundation and surrounding gates and walls remained.
Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, said: The structure of Phung Tien Palace was built in the "The Mieu style, converted into 9 compartments, the temple in the front, the palace in the back". The Phung Tien Palace campus includes 5 main structures: the main palace, the East - West combined palaces, the Left - Right courtyards and many other associated structures such as: gate system, doors, screens, dry pond - rockery...
In 1947, this structure was destroyed, leaving only the gates, the surrounding wall system and the screen behind the temple. Since 2017, the Phung Tien temple complex has been restored through a cooperation project between Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany to preserve the remaining structures and revive the original shape and function of the complex.
The project will be implemented over 9 years (2017-2026), GEKE will support and coordinate with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to preserve, restore, and virtually restore existing architecture, integrating technical training for students.

From 2020 to 2023, the project has preserved and restored the rear screen, gates and walls surrounding the Phung Tien Palace relic; at the same time, recreated the image of this relic through the virtual restoration of the overall architecture of Phung Tien Palace. This phase also provided technical training for 11 project students who are skilled painters and craftsmen in Thua Thien Hue province. Along with that, the project has organized exploration of the relic for nearly 200 students in the area with programs such as: Heritage coloring; Heritage conservation; Hue Art memory game; 3D creation; Fresco - Traditional painting techniques for murals, building decoration and restoration... Especially virtual reconstruction in the form of visual overlay of the existing space with a graphic model of the Phung Tien Palace complex.
