Get to "ride on" Mat Ngoc's name when returning

- Hello singer Thanh Ngoc, the show "Beautiful Sister Who Makes the Waves" has ended but there are still many controversies. How do you feel about participating in a reality TV show for the first time?

This is my first time participating in a reality TV show, so I have no experience in controlling my emotions. At first, when I meet new people, I am a bit shy and difficult to approach. But when we get to know each other and feel like we have a good conversation, I often "joke around" and sometimes even show my everyday emotions. Those who are familiar with me will feel normal.

However, audiences who are used to the image of artists being glamorous on stage and having standards in life will feel that my behavior is inappropriate. This makes the audience unhappy and will have bad reactions.

- When the audience reacts negatively to you, how do you choose to deal with it?

I felt a little sad and hurt because it was just a small moment but people had some harsh comments. So I chose not to look at the comments anymore.

I just let things happen naturally, without explaining anything further. Those who understand will understand, and those who deliberately do not understand, no matter how much I explain, will not change anything.

Furthermore, I feel that the problem is not too serious, because each person has their own good and bad qualities. Reality TV will exploit all of these issues, and I, as a “newbie”, cannot control this issue.

- Can you share with the audience more clearly about the situation when the controversial incident happened?

At that time, everyone was very worried because no one had ever entered such a competition. Especially Ha Kino, H'Hen Nie, Hoang Oanh and Tu Vi, who had never performed on stage as singers, both acting and singing.

As for me, Yen Trang and Ms. Doan Trang are quite comfortable mentally because this is our normal job.

I have faith that everyone can do it, because I know your capabilities. So while you are all very tense, I am very relaxed, so everyone will feel uncomfortable.

Tu Vi is a straightforward and straightforward person, and doesn’t hide her emotions, so that’s why this happened. At first, I was a bit surprised to see Tu Vi react so tensely, but I understood and said “I’m sorry” to Tu Vi.

I know I was being a little too “jolly” at the wrong time, making others feel uncomfortable. But thinking back, I also know that there are times when I should be considerate of others’ feelings when I want to express something.

Whether you want to joke or say something, you should think about other people's feelings. Otherwise, bad things will happen like you all saw.

Participating in a reality show for the first time brought the former leader of Mat Ngoc many successes but also a lot of pressure.

- Returning to the reality TV show, how does Thanh Ngoc feel about the audience's affection for her?

I was very surprised, but I thought, maybe I sang the "right song" that was considered the youth of many people from the time when the group Mat Ngoc was still active.

The fans of Mat Ngoc group in the past are now grown up, settled down, have families and children to take care of, so they cannot cheer like fans of young singers today. But their memories are still there, so when their emotions are touched, they will respond. I think I was able to "borrow" the name Mat Ngoc in the past, so I received so much support.

Not to mention I don’t have any strengths in terms of media. I think I’m also “piggybacking” on the show’s media, so I feel lucky to be back and be welcomed like that. I don’t dare to ask for anything more, I think I’ve gotten too much.

Can't sell house, sell car to invest in music

- Up to now, it can be said that Thanh Ngoc has been singing for more than 25 years, spanning the ups and downs of Vietnamese music. So from the first days of singing until now, does Thanh Ngoc see many changes in the picture of Vietnamese showbiz?

I must have become an old artist (laughs). I feel that young people nowadays are all talented, so the competition is much fiercer. Nowadays, to become an artist, you have to meet all the requirements, from vocal expertise to stage performance.

An artist can only do his job well, which is singing and performing on stage. Other tasks such as planning, makeup, styling, etc. require a whole team behind him to support and create all the conditions for the artist to shine the brightest and be the most meticulous. I think that every artist nowadays needs such a team.

- If so, does Thanh Ngoc think about joining a company or finding her own professional team?

At this time, when working independently, artists have their own freedom, everything is their own will but there will be many limitations. However, if joining a company, it will be more restrictive, while I myself have been used to working freely up to now.

I also have experience, have ideas for personal projects. Of course it will not be as good as professional companies that specialize in taking care of young artists.

As for having a team to take care of everything for you, the operating costs are very high. An “old artist” like me will find it difficult to meet. I only have a “homegrown” team. My team only focuses when I have a big project, otherwise everyone has their own work.

The female singer admitted that she is not professional because of "money" restrictions.

- Besides the crew, at this time to produce a song for the market requires a very high cost, does this cause you any difficulties?

The cost is really high. Each new song costs several thousand dollars, so I don’t have the money to do it. I usually sing old songs and then pay royalties. I “cut my coat according to my cloth” and don’t spend all my money on music.

I know there are many people who are willing to spend money, sell their house and car to do a big project, and then think about the recovery later. I cannot do that, I choose the safe option of "playing it safe and dressing well". The current economy is getting more and more difficult, so I have to think about raising my children, I want to save money for them.

Maybe because I'm safe, my activities haven't really made a breakthrough. But if I invest big, I will get bigger things.

- Without much investment money, without a professional team, so in the midst of fierce competition, where does Thanh Ngoc see herself?

I don't see where I am, I'm out of that circle. I'm not competing with anyone, I'm just going my own way.

I have my own path. I still invest at a moderate level, doing the best I can. For example, if I have a lot of money, I will mix better songs, I will shoot better MVs... that's it. But as for competing with anyone, I don't care about that. Because each artist has a different position, a different working environment and different needs of the audience. No artist can dominate the whole market.

Thanks for sharing!

Trinh Trang
