The numbers "talk"
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in the period of 2021-2025, the total capital of the National Target Program (NTPP) for sustainable poverty reduction reached 1,167 billion VND, of which the central budget was more than 1,113 billion VND and the local budget was more than 53 billion VND. By June 30, 2025, the province had disbursed 74.74% of the plan, focusing on disadvantaged communes in the old districts such as Pac Nam, Ngan Son, and Vo Nhai.
Thanks to this resource, 55 infrastructure works (transportation, education , health, culture, irrigation) were built or upgraded, helping more than 13,000 households benefit, of which over 8,300 are poor households. In addition, 391 livelihood projects were implemented, creating jobs and stable income for 8,832 households (more than half are poor and near-poor households).
From 2022 to 2024, the province's multidimensional poverty rate will decrease from 10.29% to 5.46%, with the ethnic minority sector alone decreasing by nearly 8.7%. This result not only exceeds the plan but also affirms the effectiveness of the strategy of combining infrastructure investment, production development and livelihood support.
A notable highlight is the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households. Since April 2025, Thai Nguyen province (before the merger) has completed the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses and providing housing support for people with meritorious services.
At the same time, Bac Kan province (before the merger) also implemented a plan to eliminate temporary houses for 4,979 households, including 235 households of people with revolutionary contributions and relatives of martyrs, poor and near-poor households living in mountainous areas.
Currently, all 4,979 households have started construction, reaching 100% of the plan. Completing 100% of the planned houses across the province creates an important premise for implementing the residential housing criteria in new rural construction.
Towards depth and sustainability
The joy of people in Lung Pu village, Hiep Luc commune when having national grid electricity. |
In Dong Luong village (Cho Moi), in the past, transportation was difficult and production was fragmented. When the new National Highway 3 and industrial clusters were invested in, people's lives changed significantly. Party cell secretary Hoang Thi Mai shared: In the past, the roads were difficult, people did not dare to invest in production. Now there is a big road, a forest product processing factory right in the area, people have stable jobs, and better income. The whole village has 133 households, of which only ten are poor.
These changes are also evident in the mountainous communes of the old Ngan Son and Pac Nam districts: new, spacious classrooms, children receiving a full education, more accessible health services, and many households have risen to become typical production models.
Thai Nguyen has shifted from purely supporting to creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. Models of organic tea production, medicinal herbs, fruit trees, concentrated livestock farming and community tourism have been replicated, linked to the OCOP Program. Hao Dat Cooperative (Tan Cuong) or La Bang not only helped hundreds of households escape poverty, but also contributed to shaping the Thai Nguyen tea brand in the market.

Besides, from the province's advantages, tens of thousands of rural workers have stable jobs in wood processing factories, electronic components, textiles... This is a direction to open up stable livelihoods, contribute to sustainable poverty reduction and promote labor restructuring.
The impressive results of the past term have left many valuable practical lessons, creating a foundation for the next phase. Mr. Nguyen My Hai, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized: Resolute leadership and direction are the key factors. Where the Party Committee and government closely monitor and promptly resolve problems, there will be real and sustainable poverty reduction results.
Along with that, promoting the role of the people as the subject is considered a decisive factor: from the planning stage, participating in monitoring to enjoying the results, people are involved, thereby creating consensus, transparency and trust.
Poverty reduction is not only short-term support but must be linked to production development, improving the quality of human resources and applying science and technology, avoiding scattered and ineffective investment. Along with that, mobilizing diverse resources is considered the key, the state budget plays the role of "seed capital", but only with the cooperation of businesses, communities and social organizations, the poverty reduction program can truly spread and be sustainable.
Entering a new phase, Thai Nguyen aims to reduce poverty from broad to deep, with people at the center, technology and digital transformation as the driving force. The province continues to prioritize investment in infrastructure in disadvantaged areas, replicate effective production models, develop vocational education linked to business needs, expand preferential credit and improve the capacity of poverty reduction staff.
The movement “For the poor - No one left behind” will continue to spread strongly, praising good examples and initiatives to encourage the spirit of self-reliance and self-reliance of the people. At the same time, the province promotes regional linkages, exploiting the advantages of industry - agriculture - tourism to create many new livelihoods.
With the established foundation, the determination of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, Thai Nguyen confidently enters the 2026-2030 period, continuing to realize the aspiration for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development.
