Lesson 2: Synchronized solutions - The "key" to ensuring no one is left behind

Behind every solid house that has sprung up to replace a dilapidated thatched house is a journey of humane cooperation between the government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations and the people. The success of the movement "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" is thanks to the implementation of synchronous and creative solutions associated with arousing the strength of great solidarity, creating a foothold for the poor to "settle down and find a job".

Mobilizing social resources creates a widespread movement in the spirit of "whoever has something contributes, whoever has merit contributes merit, whoever has property contributes property, whoever has a lot contributes a lot, whoever has little contributes a little"

Synchronous solutions, creative approaches

With the spirit of "the whole leaves cover the torn leaves, the torn leaves cover the more torn leaves", in recent times, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels in the province and its member organizations together with the Party and the State have focused on synchronously implementing many solutions to take care of housing for people with revolutionary contributions, poor households, near-poor households, and households in difficult circumstances.

In the period of 2019-2024, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its member organizations in Long An province built nearly 1,500 new houses and repaired hundreds of houses for people in difficult circumstances. In Tay Ninh, from 2020 to the end of 2024, the whole province built and repaired nearly 2,400 gratitude houses, charity houses, and Great Unity houses. Each house when handed over is guaranteed to be solid, adding motivation for the poor to overcome difficulties, settle down, and start a business.

In order to continue the journey of caring for the disadvantaged, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh launched the Movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide by 2025". The movement has profound humanitarian significance, contributing to accelerating the implementation of the goal of sustainable poverty reduction, improving the material and spiritual life of the people, and at the same time demonstrating the tradition of solidarity and "mutual love and affection of the nation".

Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Trinh said: “To carry out the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the entire political system of the province has strongly participated. The Provincial Steering Committee was established, a detailed plan was issued, which clearly identified the priority beneficiaries as poor and near-poor households, people with meritorious services to the revolution and families with real housing difficulties. Provincial working groups went to the grassroots level, coordinated with localities to review and carefully survey each household, classify the needs for new construction or repair, and from there, make a specific, public and transparent list. This process both ensures the right beneficiaries and creates consensus in the community.”

Propaganda work was also deployed synchronously and diversely. From there, it created a spread and aroused the sense of responsibility in each cadre, union member, association member and all classes of people. In particular, the mobilization of social resources created a widespread movement in the spirit of "whoever has something contributes, whoever has merit contributes merit, whoever has property contributes property, whoever has a lot contributes a lot, whoever has little contributes little".

Many creative measures were applied such as mobilizing union members, youth, and armed forces to contribute working days to reduce costs and shorten the implementation progress. In addition to supporting construction and repair, the government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front also mobilized philanthropists to donate additional equipment, household utensils, and necessities to households on the handover ceremony. Thereby, each house is not only solid in material but also warm in affection.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Moi, a poor household in Nhon Ninh commune, said: “I did not dare to think that I could live in a solid house like this. The new house not only protects me from the sun and rain but also helps me feel that I am not left behind.”

Close monitoring, multiplying trust

Along with the survey, the province prioritizes the monitoring of the implementation process. From the provincial level to the grassroots level, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations regularly monitor the progress, check the quality of each house and promptly record people's opinions. Thanks to that, the movement is on the right track, ensuring the set goals. This openness and transparency creates trust for people to agree, and businesses and philanthropists to confidently contribute.

In Tay Ninh province (before the merger), in addition to more than 10 billion VND from the 5% savings on regular expenditures in 2024, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels also mobilized more than 30.7 billion VND and the cooperation of households and relatives with more than 1.3 billion VND. In Long An province (before the merger), along with about 25.6 billion VND from the budget savings, the province called on businesses, families and people inside and outside the province to support with an amount of nearly 10 billion VND. Thereby, spreading the spirit of solidarity and the act of "loving others as you love yourself" in the community.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trinh affirmed that the success of the movement is the harmonious combination of synchronous, creative solutions and the solidarity strength of the entire people. Behind each solid home replacing temporary, dilapidated houses is a journey full of affection from the government, the Fatherland Front, organizations and the people. And also from those houses, the spirit of "mutual love and support" continues to spread, urging the community to unite, share and together build the homeland to be more and more beautiful, civilized and affectionate./.
