Guidelines for sustainable education

Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Quoc Bao, former Director of the Academy of Educational Management, noted that from the first popular education classes to the current comprehensive education system, Vietnamese education is not only a journey to conquer knowledge, but also a process of cultivating Vietnamese people - personality, intelligence and courage.

“Vietnamese Education – Vietnamese Schools – Vietnamese Personality” are the issues that Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Quoc Bao – former Director of the Academy of Educational Management mentioned in the context of the country entering the era of national development.

These are issues that open up profound thoughts on the development path of revolutionary education in the new era. He believes that, in order for Vietnamese education to continue to grow strongly, it is necessary to clearly define its philosophy, identity and goals.

He suggested three philosophies: First, Vietnamese education/Creating Three Transformations, including: Modernization - Nationalization - Sanitation.

Second, the Vietnamese/Construction school builds “Mastery”, which means: Teacher's morality, teacher's virtue and teacher's art. Uncle Ho's teaching wish is: Mastery means the fragrant morality of a teacher.

In the past, Confucian scholars often used these two words to encourage those who work in the teaching profession. Nowadays, the vast majority of teachers try to cultivate revolutionary ethics, set a good example for their students and are worthy of the two words "Teacher".

Third, Vietnamese personality/Training the Three Establishments, which means: establishing one's will, establishing oneself, and establishing one's career.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Dang Quoc Bao, the “Three Transformations” philosophy is the foundation for Vietnamese education in the integration period. Modernization to catch up with the development trend of science and technology, especially digital transformation, artificial intelligence and lifelong learning.

Education should be wholesome not only in imparting knowledge but also in shaping people with character, honesty, compassion and social responsibility.

He emphasized that a great education system needs a clear philosophy - that is the compass for education to develop sustainably, not being swept away by short-term fluctuations.

Building Vietnamese people of the new era

Historically, Vietnamese people have always honored the teaching profession with the image of “exemplary teachers”. From that tradition, Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Quoc Bao proposed the concept of “Su hinh”, consisting of three pillars: Su dao (teacher ethics), Su duc (professional ethics) and Su thuat (teaching methods and skills).

He related to President Ho Chi Minh 's teachings on "moral education", emphasizing that a teacher is not only a person who imparts knowledge but also a moral example. "In the past, Confucian scholars often used the two words 'Master' to encourage teachers. Today, the vast majority of teachers still maintain those qualities - diligence, thrift, integrity, dedication to the profession and love for students" - Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Quoc Bao said.

According to him, education is not only aimed at knowledge, but more importantly, at forming the “Vietnamese personality” – a person with ambition, capacity and national spirit. Establishing the will to nurture the desire to rise up and serve the Fatherland. Establishing oneself to train one’s character, qualities and adaptability. Establishing a career to create real value through creative work and contributing to society.

"Vietnam's education needs to aim at training people who know how to master knowledge, master themselves and master the future of the country" - Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Quoc Bao expressed his opinion.

Not only looking at the internal system, the former Director of the Academy of Educational Management also mentioned the role of Vietnamese education abroad, especially programs for the Vietnamese community abroad.

He proposed that this should be considered a part of the national education system, because education has no borders and generations of Vietnamese people around the world are the bridge of culture and knowledge, contributing to spreading Vietnamese values to the world.

In the context of a rapidly changing world, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Quoc Bao emphasized the spirit of “staying the same, responding to all changes” – maintaining national identity but flexibly adapting to the times. That is also the strategic principle for Vietnamese education to integrate without dissolving, to be modern but still imbued with the Vietnamese spirit.

Over the past 80 years, it can be affirmed that Vietnam's revolutionary education has carried out a great historical mission: eliminating illiteracy, improving people's knowledge, training human resources, and nurturing talents for the country.

Entering a new stage of development, when knowledge becomes the core strength of the nation, building a Vietnamese educational philosophy - national, humanistic and modern - is an urgent requirement.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Dang Quoc Bao, Vietnamese education today does not only stop at the tradition of "cultivating people", but also must create Vietnamese people of the new era - with global knowledge, Vietnamese soul and responsibility as world citizens. That is the path for "Vietnamese Education - Vietnamese Schools - Vietnamese Personality" to continue its historical mission, contributing to realizing the aspiration to make Vietnam a developed, prosperous and happy country by 2045.
