Starting in lane 5, Huy Hoang had to face many strong opponents such as Rawat Kushagra (India), Khiew Hoe Yean (Malaysia), Xu Haibo (China), Sibirtsev Ilya (Uzbekistan) or Tanaka Shun (Japan). Right after the starting signal, the swimmer from Quang Binh quickly rose to the leading group, maintained a steady speed and gradually increased the gap.
At the halfway point (400m), Huy Hoang had left Xu Haibo behind by more than 1.6 seconds. His extensive racing experience helped him control his swimming pace, while his opponents gradually lost their breath in the final stages. When entering the last 100m, Hoang had almost no competitors, finishing first with a gap of up to 3.34 seconds compared to the second-place finisher Sibirtsev Ilya.
Previously, in the men's 1,500m freestyle event, Huy Hoang also won the gold medal with a time of 15 minutes 15 seconds 01, bringing a historic gold medal to Vietnamese swimming at the continental arena. Thus, with two consecutive victories in long distance events, he became the first Vietnamese swimmer to own a "double gold medal" at an Asian Championship.
This achievement not only affirms Huy Hoang's class in the region, but also helps him accumulate confidence and valuable experience to aim for higher goals at SEA Games 33 and ASIAD 2026.
Born in 2000 in Quang Binh, Nguyen Huy Hoang has been the number one hope for Vietnamese swimming for many years. He participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, won many SEA Games gold medals and now continues to prove his position in the continental arena.
With the double gold medal at the 2025 Asian Championship, Huy Hoang not only brought glory to the country's sports but also strongly inspired the young generation of athletes, affirming the sustainable development of Vietnamese swimming.
