Nguyen Huy Hoang continued to affirm his top form when he finished first in the men's 800m freestyle event with a time of 7 minutes 57 seconds 58, thereby bringing home his second gold medal at the 2025 Asian Aquatics Championships.
In this swimming race, Hoang started in lane 5, competing with many strong opponents such as Rawat Kushagra (India), Khiew Hoe Yean (Malaysia), Xu Haibo (China), Sibirtsev Ilya (Uzbekistan), Thammananthachote (Thailand), Tanaka Shun (Japan) and teammate Tran Van Nguyen Quoc.
Right from the first meters, the swimmer from Quang Binh showed his ability to break away. He created a small advantage over his Japanese and Chinese opponents in the first 100 meters, then increased the gap thanks to his steady speed.

By the halfway point, Huy Hoang had left Xu Haibo behind by 1.61 seconds. Meanwhile, the 17-year-old Chinese talent was running out of steam, giving Sibirtsev Ilya the chance to take second place. In the last 100m, Huy Hoang had almost no competition. He accelerated strongly, widening the gap to 3.34 seconds over the Uzbek swimmer, before finishing first in a convincing manner.
Previously, the swimmer from Quang Binh won the gold medal in the men's 1,500m freestyle event with a time of 15 minutes 15 seconds 01.
