On March 15, Quang Nam Central General Hospital announced that the hospital had successfully kept alive a 30-week premature baby girl, after just over 5 weeks of intensive care and treatment.

At birth, the baby weighed only 850g, the smallest premature baby ever born at this hospital.

Previously, on February 5, pregnant woman PA (31 years old, residing in Binh Son district, Quang Ngai ) was hospitalized in a state of labor, severe eclampsia, the fetus was only 30 weeks old.

The mother was consulted and transferred for emergency cesarean section and the baby girl was born weighing only 850g.

After birth, the baby was cyanotic, had weak breathing, and a slow heart rate below 80 beats/minute. The baby was immediately resuscitated in the operating room.

Then the baby became pinker, his heart rate increased to more than 100 beats/minute and he was transferred by doctors to the neonatal resuscitation unit of the pediatrics department.

During the treatment, the doctors put the baby on a ventilator, then switched to NCPAP. The doctors prescribed antibiotics, intravenous nutrition, a blood transfusion, and treated apnea with caffeine and vitamin supplements.

The baby has been tested for vision and hearing and is now normal. After just over 5 weeks of intensive care, the baby is now growing well, weighing 1.7kg, with stable vital signs, breastfeeding well, and was discharged on the morning of March 15 to the joy of relatives, doctors and nurses.

Specialist II Doctor Ly Vu Thi Bao Thanh - head of the pediatrics department - said that if a pregnant woman shows signs of premature labor, she should go to the nearest medical facility so that doctors can intervene promptly.
