(Dan Tri) - The average speed of the Internet in Vietnam has continuously improved in recent times, helping Vietnam enter the top 10 countries with the fastest fixed Internet in the world.

Vietnam's fixed internet speed enters the world's top 10 fastest for the first time

SpeedTest - an online service specializing in analyzing and evaluating the performance and Internet access speed of network operators - has just published the Global Internet Index report on Internet speed of countries around the world, as of August this year.

According to SpeedTest, the average global fixed-line internet connection speed is 104.43 Mbps for download and 56.59 Mbps for upload; the average global mobile network speed is 90.69 Mbps for download and 13.06 Mbps for upload.

Notably, the average internet speed in Vietnam, both fixed and mobile, has continuously improved, helping Vietnam's ranking increase in SpeedTest's rankings.

Specifically, Vietnam's fixed internet network in August reached an average download speed of 261.80 Mbps and upload speed of 237.66 Mbps, increasing by 3 places and ranking 10th in the top 10 countries with the fastest fixed internet speed in the world. This is the first time Vietnam has been on this list.

Compare fixed-line internet speeds in Vietnam and other countries in the Southeast Asia region. There are no figures for Timor-Leste in SpeedTest's report.

Previously in April, the three largest network operators in Vietnam, Viettel, VNPT andFPT, simultaneously increased the minimum fixed Internet package speed to 300 Mbps, nearly double the previous speed, which has contributed to improving the domestic fixed Internet speed.

This result helps Vietnam's fixed-line Internet network rank 6th in Asia, after Singapore (1st), Hong Kong (China) (3rd), United Arab Emirates (4th), Macao (China) (6th) and Thailand (9th).

In Southeast Asia alone, Vietnam's fixed internet speed ranks third, after Singapore and Thailand.

Vietnam's mobile internet speed ranking also increased by 3 places in August, ranking 16th globally in terms of average download speed. Currently, Vietnam's mobile internet network has an average download speed of 152.17 Mbps and upload speed of 33.32 Mbps.

Vietnam's mobile internet speed ranks 10th in Asia, after the United Arab Emirates (1st), Qatar (2nd), Kuwait (3rd), South Korea (5th), Bahrain (6th), Saudi Arabia (8th), Brunei (9th), China (11th) and Singapore (12th).

Meanwhile, if only in Southeast Asia, fixed mobile network speed in Vietnam ranks 3rd, after Brunei and Singapore.

Singapore continues to hold the title of the country with the fastest fixed internet speed in the world for many months in a row, achieving average speeds of 394.3 Mbps for downloads and 289.69 Mbps for uploads.

Chile ranked second, with average speeds of 347.4 Mbps for downloads and 269.75 Mbps for uploads.

Notably, among the 10 countries with the fastest fixed internet speeds in the world, Asia is present with 6 names.

On the other hand, Syria is the country with the slowest fixed internet speed in the world, with an average download speed of 3.35 Mbps and an upload speed of 3.12 Mbps. Cuba, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Libya round out the top 5 countries with the slowest fixed internet speed in the world.

In terms of mobile network speeds, the United Arab Emirates is currently the country with the fastest mobile network speeds in the world, reaching 614.42 Mbps for downloads and 35.04 Mbps for uploads. Qatar, Kuwait, Brazil and South Korea round out the top 5.

As with fixed networks, Asian countries dominate, accounting for seven of the top 10 countries and territories with the fastest mobile network speeds in the world.

On the other hand, Bolivia is at the bottom of the list for mobile internet speeds, with download speeds of 14.69 Mbps and upload speeds of 11.35 Mbps. Belarus, Swaziland, Pakistan and Syria are among the top 5 countries with the slowest mobile internet speeds in the world.
