At about 9:30 a.m. on September 29, the slope of the positive slope section from Km 240 + 300 - Km 240 + 600 of National Highway 2 in Bac Quang district, Ha Giang province suffered a serious landslide.
Scene of the landslide.
The estimated volume of landslides is more than 30,000m3, causing traffic congestion on National Highway 2; the landslides buried a number of houses and damaged a number of vehicles.
One person has died because his house was buried by rocks and soil, and two passersby were buried by landslides and are missing.
Leaders of the Vietnam Road Administration immediately went to the scene to urge and inspect road units to coordinate with localities in search and rescue, and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.
Present at the scene, the leaders of the Road Department and Road Management Area I directed the road management contractor to mobilize 4 excavators to the scene to search for victims and promptly clear the landslide on the road to temporarily open the road. In addition, they directed the subordinate units to deploy search and rescue work and overcome the consequences of natural disasters; at the same time, they directed the 24/24h checkpoint to regulate and ensure traffic safety.
However, because the two victims were still buried in the landslide, the excavation and clearing work at the scene could not be carried out in large quantities; on the other hand, last night (September 29 to 30), heavy rain continued to fall in Bac Quang district, Ha Giang, so the search and rescue forces and disaster relief forces had to temporarily stop working at night.
Ha Giang Department of Transport has coordinated with National Highway 1 to organize traffic diversion through other routes to detour and avoid the landslide area.
Mr. Nguyen Van Son - Chairman of Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee was present at the scene.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh - Deputy Director of Vietnam Road Administration said that he has assigned Road Management Area I to direct Company 232 (the unit performing regular maintenance work on the route) to mobilize maximum human resources and construction equipment.
The unit needs to urgently carry out the work of clearing the subsidence at both ends of the route, ensuring initial traffic, expected to open to traffic on October 1, 2024.
"During the construction process, the construction unit always has a team on guard, warning to ensure safety before construction. Coordinate with the police and military to warn of landslides, ensuring safe construction," Mr. Anh requested.
