Lao Cai: Pink eye outbreak in 7/9 districts causes nearly 10,000 people to get sick

Currently, pink eye epidemic is still complicated in Lao Cai province with 108 outbreaks in 7/9 districts, cities and towns.

Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health recommends that although pink eye is an acute disease with severe symptoms and is easily contagious, it is usually benign and leaves few sequelae. However, if patients use drugs on their own, it will cause vision loss and corneal scarring, especially drugs containing corticosteroids that, when used for a long time, can lead to dangerous complications, even blindness.

There is no vaccine to treat pink eye, so to prevent complications of the disease, people need to take preventive measures as well as treatment.

Therefore, when suffering from pink eye, patients should practice personal hygiene, use their own wash basin, face towel, wear a mask, and sunglasses to limit the spread of infection to others. When you have the disease, it is best to go to a medical facility to have your eyes examined, especially by a specialist.

The People's Committee of Lao Cai province directed the health sector to strengthen monitoring, early detection and timely handling of pink eye outbreaks, and organize guidance on implementing anti-infection measures in nurseries, schools, agencies and communities.

At the same time, medical examination and treatment facilities in the province need to organize well the consultation and treatment, promptly notify units and localities with patients to deploy disease prevention measures, fully prepare to avoid shortage of drugs and supplies, chemicals, and equipment for epidemic prevention, and strengthen hospital infection control work in accordance with regulations of the Ministry of Health .
