A series of private schools in Hanoi organize their own exams to enroll 10th graders.

In addition to reviewing transcripts and using Hanoi 's 10th grade exam results, many private high schools organize exams and interviews in English to recruit students.

This year, the Vietnam - Australia Hanoi Inter-level School is recruiting 102 grade 10 students for the Cambridge International Program and the Special Education Program (SEP), accepting applications until June 30.

Students in Hanoi will be admitted directly if they meet one of five criteria: being an excellent student for four years of junior high school or having an average score of 8 or higher in all subjects, with English in the most recent exam being above 8.5; having IELTS 5.5 or equivalent; winning excellent student awards in grade 9 in Math, Literature, English or district-level awards with the condition of having an English report card score of 8 or higher; being admitted to specialized high schools in Hanoi.

If they do not meet the requirements for direct admission, students must take a knowledge test, including English with a time limit of 60 minutes, then answer a 10-minute interview with a foreign teacher. Students from other provinces do the same, but must also take Math and Literature tests.

The school's 10th grade entrance fee is 2.1 million VND.

Vinschool also announced enrollment for all levels. Students registering for the standard 10th grade will take exams in Math, Literature, English and Logical Thinking; advanced students will take additional Science and Math exams in English. After that, they will have a direct interview with the teacher.

Admission requirements are that students have good conduct and good academic performance throughout all years of secondary school. The school said there are two admission periods: January-August and November-December.

Some schools, such as Newton Secondary and High School, have already recruited their first 10th graders at the end of January. Candidates applying to this school must pass an aptitude test, in which the semi-international system will take a Math and English test, and the American/Cambridge Bilingual system will take an additional comprehensive test including Math, Science, and Language Arts.

This year, FPT High School will accept applications for admission to grade 10 from now until the quota is full, maintaining three stable methods, including considering academic records, achievements, awards and using exam scores for grade 10 high school.

With the transcript review method, students need to have a total score of Math, Literature and Foreign Language of three consecutive semesters in grades 8 and 9 of at least 62/90 points.

If using the method of considering achievements and awards, students need to meet one of the following conditions: achieving excellent results in 3.5 years of middle school; winning national prizes in arts, sports, science and technology in grade 9; winning excellent student prizes at district or higher levels.

Finally, if using exam scores, candidates need to take the local public high school entrance exam for grade 10, using the scores of three subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language to submit their application.

In all three methods, FPT High School requires students to achieve good conduct or better in all years of secondary school. Tuition for 10th grade students in the 2024-2025 school year is 67 million VND, increasing to 72-79 million VND in the following years.

Marie Cuire School has not yet issued specific admission guidelines, but said it will continue to use Hanoi’s 10th grade exam results as the admission method. This year, the school will enroll 10th graders at three campuses: My Dinh, Van Phu and Viet Hung.

Previously, Le Quy Don Secondary and High Schools, Archimedes Academy, Nguyen Sieu... announced their 10th grade admission plans. Most of them organized entrance exams, considered direct admission, or gave priority points to candidates with IELTS certificates.

According to the Department of Education and Training, Hanoi has nearly 100 private high schools, enrolling about 27,000 10th graders each year. Tuition fees range from 800,000 to more than ten million VND per month.
