The reason why the Vietnamese women's team is given special privileges at the 2023 World Cup

As previously reported, the Vietnamese women's team will play the final match of Group E of the 2023 World Cup against the Netherlands at Dunedin Stadium (also known as Forsyth Barr) with more than 37,000 seats.

Notably, Forsyth Barr is the only covered stadium in New Zealand and is a creative symbol of the city of Dunedin.

It is winter in New Zealand and temperatures can drop below 10 degrees Celsius, along with rain.

This is a huge obstacle for teams from hot climates such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Costa Rica, South Africa or Argentina (teams participating in the 2023 World Cup).

Understanding that, the Organizing Committee has proactively arranged the matches of the above teams at Forsyth Barr Stadium to somewhat avoid the effects of the weather.

“They come from a hot and humid region with a temperature difference of up to 30 degrees Celsius compared to New Zealand. Therefore, playing at Forsyth Barr will reduce the impact of the weather on them,” said Stuff (New Zealand).

Meanwhile, the CEO of Southern Utd (the club that owns Forsyth Barr Stadium), Mr. Dougal McGowan also pointed out the advantages of the stadium in the city of Dunedin.

“The roof of the field will limit the cold wind. So we always have a nice and warm grass surface.

It creates a great atmosphere and sitting in the covered patio keeps everyone warm and out of the snow anyway.

No matter the weather, the pitch will always be dry and ideal for players,” said Dougal McGowan.

At the 2023 World Cup, the Vietnamese women's team will face the US (July 22), Portugal (July 27) and the Netherlands (August 1).
