Man 'accidentally' fires gun while hunting, says he was injured by stray bullet

On the afternoon of October 11, Mr. Phan Thanh Ha, Chairman of the People's Committee of Mai Thuy Commune (Le Thuy District, Quang Binh ) said that the locality and authorities had clarified information about a local resident who was shot and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.

Previously, on October 10, Mr. D.TH (34 years old, resident of Mai Thuy commune), entered Le Thuy District General Hospital with a chest wound, bleeding, and conscious state.

Lead bullet removed from Mr. H's chest.

Taking an X-ray of the patient, the doctors found a radiopaque foreign object shaped like an air gun lead bullet located in the right lower leg, about 15 cm from the wound. The doctors performed surgery and removed the 0.7 cm long air gun lead bullet. At the hospital, Mr. H. reported that he was working in the field when he was suddenly hit by a "stray bullet" in the chest.

On the morning of October 11, the authorities and the Mai Thuy Commune Police investigated the case and directly obtained information from Mr. H. The police also seized an air gun at Mr. H's house. Through verification, it was known that on the morning of October 10, Mr. H. was driving a motorbike with an air gun to go hunting. While moving, he accidentally fell off the motorbike, the gun accidentally went off, causing a lead bullet from the gun to shoot into his chest, injuring him.

According to Mai Thuy Commune Police, equipping and using air guns must be authorized by the competent state agency. Mr. H's use of an air gun is illegal.
