Road-going McLaren F1 number 14/64 owned by the Brunei Royal Family with Titanium Yellow exterior and Black interior. In 2007, the car was changed to Ibis White and received a High-Downforce Kit, LM-spec interior, original Facom toolbox and two-piece luggage set.

Gordon Murray and the McLaren design team did not set out to create the world's fastest road car. They aimed to directly apply Formula 1 (F1) technology and carbon fiber construction to the ultimate driving experience, eliminating the limitations and shortcomings of rival supercars of the time. The result, an unlimited top speed of 391 km/h is an astonishing achievement, breaking records thanks to the F1's meticulous engineering in every detail.

Using a 6.0L (6,064 cc) BMW V12 engine with 627 horsepower in a compact front-end body, 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Andy Wallace's historic performance at Ehra-Lessien remains the fastest lap by a non-turbocharged road car.

Thanks to its extraordinary legacy, the McLaren F1 ranks alongside the Ferrari 250 GTO and Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 as one of the greatest automotive creations of all time. The technical aspects and achievements of the F1 are more commonly used, such as the 3-seat configuration with a central driving position, the gold leaf lining of the engine compartment to manage temperature, and the specially designed lightweight Kenwood 10-disc CD player.

Just as top speed was a byproduct rather than a primary goal of F1 development, the car was not designed for racing. It was built for the road, and Gordon Murray was against adapting the F1 for competition from the start.

However, the slightly modified F1 GTR quickly won its first 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995. The team of Yannick Dalmas, Masanori Sekiya, and JJ Lehto drove the Lanzante-run, Ueno Clinic-sponsored No. 59 to first place, leading McLaren's incredible 1-3-4-5 finish.

Of just 64 road-going F1s ever built, the car for sale is number 014. The original exterior finish was a bright Titanium Yellow over a Black leather and Alcantara interior. The owner was the Brunei Royal Family and the car was later exported to the UK.

The F1 was previously purchased by former McLaren Cars Director David Clark and brought back to McLaren for a comprehensive service. It was then transferred to its owner in New York for about three years before returning to California.

The car was serviced at BMW North America in Montvale, New Jersey, the official East Coast service and repair facility for McLaren Cars. It was sold in August 2006 with 3,224 miles on the odometer. The owner brought the car to McLaren headquarters in Woking in 2007 for a complete rebuild.

The original paint was changed to the current Ibis White, and a High-Downforce Kit was added, consisting of a fixed rear wing in place of the standard active wing, a GTR-derived front bumper and splitter, and LM-spec vents in the front fenders.

At the time of the facelift, chassis 014 was the last of eight F1s to be fitted with the downforce kit. Other exterior changes included new headlights, an upgraded exhaust system, and black-painted GTR-style five-spoke wheels from OZ Racing.

The interior was also refreshed with an improved climate control system and converted to LM specification, including new racing-style seats and more carbon fiber. The total cost of the 014 chassis transformation, documented in over 450 photos, exceeded $500,000. Once completed, the car was officially handed over to its owner at the famous McLaren Technology Center designed by Norman Foster.

Before the repaint, the car's door sills were signed by Michael Schumacher, dated 12 March 1996, two days after the two-time Formula 1 champion retired from the Australian Grand Prix, which opened his first season with Ferrari. After the 2007 repaint, the car was signed by a seven-time world champion, while the left-hand luggage compartment still bears the signature of former McLaren driver Sir Lewis Hamilton.

Acquired by its consignor in Denmark, the F1 still has its original Facom toolbox and two-piece luggage set specifically designed for chassis 014. At the time of listing, the car had covered 13,711 miles (22,065 km). This is a McLaren F1 014 that still retains the distinction of being the greatest road car ever built.
