Launch a campaign to repel, prevent, and resolutely end IUU violations

On the afternoon of October 7, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the 16th meeting of the National Steering Committee on Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU). Attending the meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Head of the National Steering Committee on IUU; and members of the National Steering Committee on IUU. The meeting was connected online to 21 coastal provinces and cities across the country. At the Khanh Hoa bridge, comrade Le Huyen - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and leaders of departments, branches and localities attended.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested ministries, sectors, localities, functional forces, especially leaders, to promote the highest sense of responsibility in declaring war on IUU violations. The Prime Minister requested that from now until November 15, a campaign be launched to repel, prevent, and resolutely end IUU violations; every week, ministries, sectors, and localities must review the results of anti-IUU fishing tasks to continue to handle them effectively...

At the meeting, leaders of central ministries, branches and a number of coastal localities reported to the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee on IUU fishing on outstanding results in the fight against IUU fishing since the 15th meeting of the Steering Committee; existing issues that need to be addressed immediately to end IUU violations.

In Khanh Hoa, after the 15th meeting of the National Steering Committee on IUU, the Provincial People's Committee thoroughly grasped and directed relevant units to launch a peak period, resolutely declaring war on violations of IUU regulations. The locality has achieved many positive results in combating IUU fishing, especially in fleet management; monitoring, inspecting and controlling fishing vessel activities at sea; controlling fishing vessels entering and leaving ports, output; tracing the origin of aquatic products from exploitation...

To effectively combat IUU fishing, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests that the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities focus on performing the following tasks before October 14: Administratively sanction all serious IUU fishing acts (loss of connection to fishing vessel tracking devices, crossing borders, violating foreign waters); clearly identify the origin and cause of fishing vessels not registered in the locality. In addition, coordinate to complete criminal trials of prosecuted cases; clearly identify the owners of fishing vessels that have been deregistered due to missing reports, exports, sales, and donations.
