At the meeting, leaders of central ministries, branches and a number of coastal localities reported to the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee on IUU fishing on outstanding results in the fight against IUU fishing since the 15th meeting of the Steering Committee; existing issues that need to be addressed immediately to end IUU violations.
In Khanh Hoa, after the 15th meeting of the National Steering Committee on IUU, the Provincial People's Committee thoroughly grasped and directed relevant units to launch a peak period, resolutely declaring war on violations of IUU regulations. The locality has achieved many positive results in combating IUU fishing, especially in fleet management; monitoring, inspecting and controlling fishing vessel activities at sea; controlling fishing vessels entering and leaving ports, output; tracing the origin of aquatic products from exploitation...
To effectively combat IUU fishing, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests that the People's Committees of coastal provinces and cities focus on performing the following tasks before October 14: Administratively sanction all serious IUU fishing acts (loss of connection to fishing vessel tracking devices, crossing borders, violating foreign waters); clearly identify the origin and cause of fishing vessels not registered in the locality. In addition, coordinate to complete criminal trials of prosecuted cases; clearly identify the owners of fishing vessels that have been deregistered due to missing reports, exports, sales, and donations.
