The “ritual” of Mondo Duplantis
Five years after conquering the pole vault planet with 6.17 meters – his first world record – Armand “Mondo” Duplantis has pushed that limit to a place no one thought possible: 6.30 meters.

He did it in Tokyo, amid laughter and banter with fellow pole vaulters – a group of colleagues happily enjoying their own corner of the stadium, which was still soaked with water from the hurdles.
The night was dark and hot, sweat poured from the eyebrows, a night of surprise and admiration from the enthusiastic audience in the stands of Tokyo National Stadium (Japan) .
“I am so happy that I can’t even describe it. I have enjoyed everything in Tokyo for the past two weeks. I think the only way to leave Japan is to break the world record ,” Duplantis said.
“I don't know what's ahead, and I don't care. I just want to enjoy this moment,” he continued.

This is the 14th time the Swedish sporting phenomenon has broken a world record – the sky seems to be the limit. ABBA celebrated with “Mamma Mia”. It was a real party.
The record was set at around 11pm in Tokyo, on the field where he won his first Olympic gold medal in 2021.
To add drama to the record-breaking “ritual,” Duplantis gathered around him all the top pole vaulters of the moment, including 38-year-old French veteran Renaud Lavillenie, who held the world record until he surpassed him in 2020, just before the pandemic broke out.
Lavillenie is now like an elder brother on his farewell day on the international stage. Alongside him are Sam Kendricks – the only man to have beaten Duplantis at a Worlds (2019) – and Kurtis Marschall, and of course Karalis – more of a friend than a rival .

The God of Pole Vaulting
A year ago, in Paris, when he won his second Olympic gold medal, Duplantis cleared 6.25m. At that time, everyone thought he had reached the “Moon”. So is 6.30m this time “Mars”?
Duplantis made pole vaulting a fad. While the record $100,000 prize money was his alone, everyone benefited from the attraction.
Thanks to Duplantis' records, pole vaulting became an indispensable highlight of every athletics competition.

On his first attempt at 6.30m, the 60,000 spectators almost burst into tears, but were choked when his right knee, despite having cleared the bar, lightly touched the bar, causing it to fall.
On the second try, the beam only shook for a second before falling.
“The track speaks for itself, it’s all about speed. When I get it right, I know I’m going to be successful,” he explained.
That's right, on the third attempt: 22 fast steps, the pole like a spear shot out at a speed of more than 10m/s, bending and emitting a sound like a violin string, then he flew up gracefully, like an angel, gliding over the bar, landing joyfully, jumping up and running towards the arms of his teammates.

“As soon as I leave the ground, from the moment of transition into the air, I know if the jump is valid or not,” he said. “I know if I have transferred enough energy or the jump will fail.”
In 5 years, he conquered each centimeter in turn: 6.17m and 6.18m in 2020; 6.19m, 6.20m and 6.21m in 2022; 6.22m and 6.23m in 2023; 6.24m, 6.25m and 6.26m in 2024; by 2025, 4 consecutive miracles from 6.27m to 6.30m
A genius, the Mozart of pole vaulting, he does everything with laughter, like it's nothing. A god of sports.
What is the limit for Duplantis? Experts are hesitant to make predictions, while AI analyzes 6.51 meters.
