Initial information, at around 6:30 p.m. the same day, some people discovered Mr. Nhuong lying unconscious on the side of the trail, with many wounds on his body, suspected to be caused by wild animals' scratches and bites. People immediately organized first aid, stopped the bleeding and informed the local authorities.
Upon receiving the news, the authorities of Hung Son commune coordinated with the Ch'om commune health station to quickly arrive at the scene. Because the incident occurred deep in the forest, far from the commune center, rescue work encountered many difficulties. The commune authorities contacted the Tay Giang Regional Health Center to send an ambulance to A Tu 1 village to pick up the victim for emergency treatment.

Initial investigations determined that the victim suffered serious injuries to his face and lower jaw, and had lost a lot of blood. After receiving emergency care, Mr. Nhuong regained consciousness and said that a large bear suddenly attacked him while he was walking home from the fields. He tried to fight back but was scratched and bitten in many places and fainted on the spot.
Mr. Nhuong is now out of danger and is being monitored and treated at Tay Giang Regional Medical Center. Hung Son Commune authorities have sent officials to visit and support the family, and at the same time coordinated with functional forces to check areas where bears are suspected to appear to warn people.
