Over 1,000 hectares of crops were damaged.
Although there had been warnings of a flood, the people of Ku Ke village (Ham Thuan commune) did not expect the flood to come so suddenly on the night of September 5. "This is the first time I have seen floodwaters rise so high. When the floodwaters rose halfway up the house, I had to quickly take my children and run. In the fields, the water was white and the rice was all knocked down," Mang Duy Loc, hamlet 1, Ku Ke village, still in shock, recounted the recent flood.
That is one of many households affected by floods. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, in the first week of September 2025 alone, floods occurred in many communes and wards in the province, causing damage to people and property. Notably, the time of floods also occurred when most of the crop areas were in the harvest stage or had just been planted for a new crop. In particular, many rice areas of farmers in communes in the Southeast of the province were in the harvest stage, but were knocked down by floods, causing a loss of more than 1,000 hectares.
Some localities with crop areas including rice, vegetables, and dragon fruit that were heavily damaged by floods include Ham Thuan commune with about 535 hectares, Ham Liem 192 hectares. In addition, in Nam Thanh and Nghi Duc communes in early September, heavy rains damaged nearly 180 hectares of crops, mainly rice that was about to be harvested and newly sown rice, affecting productivity and quality...

Efforts to overcome
The heavy damage caused by floods and the current unstable rice prices, lower than the same period from 1,000 VND to 1,500 VND/1 kg of fresh rice (from 5,000 - 5,500 VND/kg), makes people even more anxious. As for some vegetables, after the water receded, people harvested and sold them at cheap prices to recover capital.
As soon as the floodwaters receded, the local authorities mobilized the people and local forces to clear bushes and clear the waterways to minimize local flooding. At the same time, the local authorities continued to count the damage and support people to overcome the consequences.
The leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province recommend that in the last months of the year, the weather situation is complicated, so localities must guide people to organize appropriate production. In particular, in the summer-autumn crop, people need to harvest quickly and neatly to avoid damage caused by extreme weather phenomena and ensure suitable seeds for crop production. At the same time, people are advised to complete the crop planting no later than the end of September, prioritizing the use of short-term, high-quality varieties that are resistant to lodging and resistant to adverse weather conditions. For vegetable and flower production areas, especially in communes and wards in region 1 of the province, it is necessary to proactively guard against extreme weather phenomena such as hail, tornadoes, and avoid flooding. For arid areas where water sources for crop cultivation are not guaranteed, people are advised to switch to early winter-spring crop production.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province currently has a total cultivated area of about 952,400 hectares/1,034,500 hectares of the plan, reaching 92.1%. Of which, the annual crop cultivated area is about 313,600 hectares/395,890 hectares of the plan (including rice about 123,500 hectares, vegetables of all kinds 74,000 hectares, flowers of all kinds 9,600 hectares). In just 2 days (September 5 and 6), the total value of damage caused by floods in Lam Dong province is estimated at 13.4 billion VND.
