The season of mountains and forests changing their clothes

HeritageHeritage02/02/2025

After the cold winter days, spring has brought sunshine, wind and warmth to awaken the mountains and forests of the Northwest, urging this place to change its cold gray coat into a cloak woven with spring flowers. On the high plateaus of the motherland, spring has come, peach, plum and apricot flowers blooming in full bloom, changing the landscape of the mountains and forests. The fresh pink peach blossoms, the pure white apricot and plum blossoms shimmering in the spring sunshine have captivated visitors even though they have to overcome the breathtaking mountain passes.

Still spring flowers, on the journey through the villages, the brilliant yellow rapeseed fields make us amazed. The small pretty rapeseed flowers bloom around a stem like a flower vine swaying in the wind. Sometimes a whole carpet of yellow rapeseed flowers seems to compete in color under the ancient peach tree with its brilliant pink flowers blooming beside the stone fence. Photographers, whether professional or amateur, will not miss this impressive image.

Passing through the wet spring rains, the late blooming bauhinia flowers open up a peaceful, gentle sky amidst the majestic mountains. The Thai people compare bauhinia flowers to pure, faithful love. The blooming bauhinia flowers are also a sign of a bountiful harvest.

Along the flower roads, from Hoa Binh to Moc Chau to Son La city on Highway 6, then around to Lai Chau, to Dien Bien or turning to Sa Pa, Lao Cai, spring flowers bloom to welcome travelers from afar.

If you want to join the crowd of people eagerly coming to the paradise of apricot, plum and peach blossoms, you can go to Moc Chau town (Son La) in late January and early February or visit the foggy city of Sa Pa. The road to the Ha Giang stone plateau is also bustling with spring tours to the mountainous region. Flowers bloom on both sides of the road from Ha Giang city to Quan Ba, Yen Minh and are most concentrated in Dong Van and Meo Vac.

Travel enthusiasts and adventurers often avoid crowded flower viewing spots and instead go to remote places. In those places, the destination is the wild beauty that nature bestows, which is always valuable. That could be Bac Ha ( Lao Cai ) with Tam Hoa plum gardens blooming with pure white flowers in the communes of Lau Thi Ngai, Na Hoi, Ta Chai... That could be Long Luong in Van Ho district (Son La) with peach gardens blooming with ecstatic petals. That could also be the old Y Ty forest or the Hoang Lien Son range (Lao Cai) with the rhododendron flowers silently blooming in the quiet space.

The journey to hunt for rhododendrons in spring will certainly take many years to find nearly 40 types of these flowers. There is a spring flower in Yen Bai with a rather strange name - the To Day flower, which is enough to attract tourists to this land. The H'Mong people in Tram Tau or Mu Cang Chai districts (Yen Bai) hope that To Day flowers will bloom on the mountain slopes to enjoy the spring festival. That is why people here have a saying: "If you have not seen To Day, you have not seen spring". Just go into the remote villages of La Pan Tan, De Xu Phinh, Nam Khat communes... in the To Day flower season, which is right on the H'Mong people's Tet (one month before the Lunar New Year of the Kinh people), you will see the spring of the mountains and forests warming people's hearts.
