The decision to increase the new issuance fee for H1B - a US visa for highly skilled international workers, is continuing to create many fluctuations in the global economy , especially for technology companies that are the largest employers of workers granted this visa. Many technology units are having to consider a major change in human resources strategy as recruiting international talent to the US through H1B is expected to face many difficulties in the future.
After the US sharply increased the H1B visa fee to 100,000 USD, the country's giant technology corporations such as Amazon or Meta are predicted to not be affected too much. However, for small technology businesses or emerging startups with only a few dozen employees, this is considered a strong blow to their ability to recruit international talent.
"Companies like us may have to reduce the number of H-1B visa employees we hire. Some companies will shift some of their hiring to other countries, such as India, to address this situation," said Sam Liang, CEO of AI company Otter.ai.
India is mentioned the most as this country accounts for over 70% of the H1B visas issued. Many experts have mentioned that instead of sending Indian workers to the US under the H1B program, technology companies can set up offices or productivity improvement centers right in India and recruit these employees here to work. This is also one of the scenarios that the authorities of this country are interested in.
Mr. G. Chokkalingam - Chief Research Expert, Market Research Company Equinomics commented: "Even large corporations like Amazon have offices in India. Even though the number of H1B visas issued has decreased, India can still be a top destination for regional centers of international businesses, the government can attract investment in this field."
At present, India has more than 1,700 productivity centers of international technology enterprises, creating nearly 2 million jobs and export revenue of about 64 billion USD.
Not only India, many other countries such as the UK or EU countries are also emerging as places for US technology companies to set up offices and hire foreign personnel, thanks to the available technology human resources and the ability to use English. This is expected to help these countries create large technology centers, becoming new destinations to attract global talent, when the road to Silicon Valley narrows in the future.
