Can Tho affirms its position as the center and driving force for development of the Mekong Delta region.

VTV.vn - On the morning of September 27, at the Hall of the Can Tho City Military Command, the official session of the 1st Congress of Can Tho City Party Committee, term 2025-2030, took place.

Comrade Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly, on behalf of the Politburo attended and directed the Congress. Also attending the Congress were Mr. Le Minh Hung - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Organization Commission, along with many leaders of ministries, branches, veteran revolutionaries, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces; leaders and former leaders of Can Tho City, Soc Trang Province, and Hau Giang Province through the periods.

The Congress convened 484 official delegates, representing more than 143,000 party members in the entire city Party Committee, to attend the Congress. The Congress's theme is: "Promoting the tradition of solidarity; building and rectifying the Party and the political system to be clean and strong in all aspects; mobilizing all resources, making breakthroughs, being creative, integrating internationally, and developing Can Tho City quickly, sustainably, and modernly".

Speaking at the Congress, Comrade Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman, emphasized that this City Party Congress is an hopeful start of new leadership thinking, new governance model, new determination, and new development aspirations of the Party Committee, government, and people of Can Tho City. Can Tho will affirm its position as the center and driving force of development of the Mekong Delta region, worthy of being a centrally-run city.

During the past term, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, the Party Committee, government and people of Can Tho city, Hau Giang province, and Soc Trang province (formerly) have strived and achieved many remarkable achievements: The economic scale continued to expand to VND 312,621 billion; average growth of 7.41% per year; GRDP per capita reached VND 96.9 million; budget revenue reached more than VND 105 trillion. The investment and business environment has been improved. New rural construction exceeded the set plan, the poverty rate is 0.74%. Many important transport infrastructure projects, bridges, seaports, and international airports have been expanded and implemented.

The Congress heard the announcement of the Politburo's Decisions on personnel work. Accordingly, Mr. Do Thanh Binh - Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee was appointed as Permanent Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

The Executive Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee consists of 77 comrades. The Standing Committee of the City Party Committee consists of 18 comrades. Mr. Le Quang Tung - General Secretary of the National Assembly, Head of the Office of the National Assembly was mobilized and appointed to hold the position of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee. Deputy Secretaries of the City Party Committee include: Mr. Dong Van Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Head of the 15th National Assembly Delegation of Can Tho City; Ms. Ho Thi Cam Dao, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City; Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee; Mr. Tran Van Huyen, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee.

Standing Committee members include: Nguyen Thien Nhon, Nguyen Ngoc Tam, Le Tan Thu, Pham Thi Phuong, Ma Thi Tuoi, Huynh Van Hung, Huynh Viet Hoa, Tran Van Chinh, Le Cong Ly, Duong Sa Kha, Nguyen Huu Nghia, Tong Hoang Khoi and 59 Executive Committee members.

On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2025 - 2030 term, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee Le Quang Tung respectfully thanked National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for acknowledging and praising the results that the city achieved in the past term in the fields of economy, culture, society, national defense - security, Party building and political system building; at the same time, pointed out the limitations and shortcomings that need to be overcome with a spirit of frankness and responsibility. In particular, the National Assembly Chairman suggested a vision, strategic orientation, 6 key tasks and solutions on Party building work, attaching importance to personnel work, operating local governments at 2 levels, and effectively implementing the Central Resolutions - including studying and recommending the Central to summarize Resolution 59 on building and developing Can Tho City to 2030, with a vision to 2045...

According to the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, the orientations and solutions suggested by the National Assembly Chairman will help the city promote and exploit its potentials and advantages to the fullest and increasingly affirm Can Tho City as a center of economy, trade, science, technology, education and training, high-quality healthcare, a driving force of the Mekong Delta region, and also an important growth pole of the country. "The Party Committee, government and people of Can Tho City seriously receive and fully and comprehensively grasp the contents and profound instructions of the National Assembly Chairman and will concretize them into resolutions, programs and action plans for the entire term to implement immediately after the Congress in a practical, timely and effective manner," emphasized Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Quang Tung.

"With new confidence and spirit, the Party Committee, government and people of Can Tho City promise to promote the combined strength of the entire political system, devote all their efforts, intelligence, innovation, creativity, determination and resoluteness to build Can Tho City to be increasingly rich, beautiful, civilized and modern," affirmed Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Quang Tung.

Speaking at the Congress, Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Quang Tung expressed his honor and emotion when the Politburo and the Secretariat trusted, transferred and assigned the important responsibility of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee - a land rich in revolutionary tradition, full of affection and generosity; saying that this is an honor and a valuable opportunity to learn, practice and develop.

"Entering a new phase, with a larger scale and development space, Can Tho carries the responsibility of being both a central, modern, dynamic urban area and a land deeply attached to agriculture, farmers and rural areas of the delta. This is an opportunity for the city to maximize its advantages, connecting urban strength with rural potential, creating harmonious, sustainable and inclusive development," said Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Quang Tung.

As Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, Comrade Le Quang Tung affirmed that he will promote the tradition of solidarity and determination with the Standing Committee and the City Party Executive Committee to lead and direct the successful implementation of the set goals and tasks; hoping to continue to receive the attention and close direction of the Central Government; the coordination and support of ministries, branches and localities in the region; and above all, the trust and companionship of all cadres, party members and people of the city, determined to build Can Tho to be both modern and civilized, rich, beautiful, prosperous and affectionate - truly becoming the center of the Mekong Delta region.
