According to the latest figures released by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the country's authorities received 382 reports related to modern slavery and human trafficking crimes, an increase of 12.35% compared to the previous fiscal year, of which 109 reports related to human trafficking, 91 reports related to forced marriage and 69 reports of forced labor.

AFP Anti-Exploitation Unit Commander Helen Schneider said these statistics were not just numbers but a problem, with many innocent people becoming victims of human trafficking crimes.

According to him, raising awareness of the law in Australia and supporting victims will help make progress in efforts to eradicate this crime.

The report was released on July 30, the United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons. This year’s theme focuses on efforts to “Leave no child behind in the fight against trafficking in persons.”

United Nations data shows that one-third of victims of human trafficking globally are children, the majority of whom are girls.
