Russia officially besieges Kurakhovo

Russia-Ukraine war today December 6, 2024: Russia has officially surrounded Kurakhovo, the assault units have broken through the AFU's strong defense line.

Speaking to RIA Novosti news agency, Chairman of the Committee on Sovereignty of the Russian Public Chamber, Vladimir Rogov, said that during the offensive in the Kurakhovo region, the Russian army surrounded the city from the north and south.

“ Today Kurakhovo is surrounded from several sides. Our troops fully control the approaches to the city from the north, east and northwest, as well as partly from the south, ” Rogov said.

He added that the Russian Armed Forces also continue to surround the city from the west, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are currently retreating.

Earlier, Rogov reported that the AFU had begun clearing minefields in the Zaporozhye region. According to him, similar activity was noticed in the Orekhovsk direction.

Ukraine is collapsing in Toretsk

The Military Summary channel reported that Kiev forces successfully counterattacked the village of Novyi Komar, which was recently taken over by the Russian army. This victory helped them regain control of the supply line in the direction of Velyka Novosilka.

To the northwest of Kurakhove, Russian troops continue to advance on the village of Stary Terny. Ukrainian sources report a siege of Kurakhove due to limited logistical capacity in the area. According to information from the AFU 46th Brigade, they cannot retreat from Kurakhove as all roads are blocked and cannot retreat for political reasons.

In Toretsk, AFU defenses are collapsing. Russian troops have captured much of the mine and control the downtown high-rises. The loss of these key positions by AFU means the city is in danger of falling soon.

In Chasov Yar, frontline images show the Russian side has achieved its first successes in the industrial zone.

According to Rybar channel, the Russian side conducted a combined attack on AFU targets in various areas of Ukraine, while repelling Kiev's UAV attacks in several provinces.

In the Oleksandro - Kalinovo direction, Russian assault units are advancing into the center of Toretsk (Dzerzhynsk) and the Zabalka district south of the city.

On the Vremivka side, fierce fighting is taking place in the vicinity of Razdolne and Novyi Komarov, where the AFU is fiercely counterattacking the Russian forward positions.

The Kurakhove clamp has closed.

Readovka reported that the AFU garrison in Kurakhove blew up the dam, which backfired, dealing them a double blow. The floodwaters from the dam burst significantly reduced the AFU's maneuver space. On the other hand, the southern arc of Kurakhove was controlled by the Russian side, making any maneuver in this direction impossible.

Russian troops in the Kurakhove direction achieved one of the important intermediate objectives. In particular, they approached the key chokepoints in the south of the AFU line, including the villages of Sukhie Yaly and Konstantinopolskoye. Fierce fighting took place at these locations.

North of the village chain along the Sukhie Yaly River, AFU units no longer had the opportunity to rely on settlements, or on the H-15 highway and the Volchya River.

All signs of a planned withdrawal of forces from the city are clear, but Ukrainian forces are withdrawing from the city in stages.

At the same time, Ukrainian units holding the front along the Sukhi Yaly River will not abandon their positions to take advantage of the time to slowly evacuate the city garrison to carry out communication work.

However, the AFU was taking too much risk. Once the Russian army broke through the enemy defenses in the villages along the river and reached the N-15 highway, all AFU units that had not yet retreated west would be completely surrounded.
