According to information from Hanoi Railway One Member Limited Liability Company (Hanoi Metro), the unit will deploy fare support for passengers participating in the pilot program of identification solutions, electronic authentication and biometric recognition, and cashless payment on urban railway line No. 2A, Cat Linh-Ha Dong.

Specifically, passengers who have registered to participate in the program to experience using VISA cards at the ticket gate and passengers who purchased tickets on the Hanoi Metro Mobile App during the period from September 20 to October 9, 2025 will have their tickets refunded to the bank account registered on the passenger's program trial registration form.

From October 10, passengers who successfully activate their accounts using their chip-embedded citizen ID cards on the Hanoi Metro App when purchasing single-trip, daily, and weekly tickets will receive ticket support and receive tickets via QR code on their mobile phones to pass through the ticket gate. Passengers who travel multiple times will still receive ticket support throughout the program (the program will last until October 30, 2025, or until VISA's funding budget runs out).

Passengers using Visa tap cards at the ticket gate and traveling by urban railway according to the Tap & Go model will be fully supported by Hanoi Metro and sponsors from October 10, 2025 (the program is expected to last until February 28, 2026 or until the end of VISA's sponsorship budget). Passengers will not have their card deducted if the card is valid and still valid. If the card is invalid, they will not be able to pass through the gate. If the card is locked during the trip, they will not be able to exit the station and will have to pay the fare at the counter at the end of the journey.

Passengers over 60 years old using ID cards/citizen ID cards with chips through the ticket gate will continue to be exempt from ticket fees according to the ticket price policy of Hanoi city.

Passengers under 60 years old who do not activate their account with a chip-embedded citizen ID card on the Hanoi Metro App or do not register to participate in the program at the station will not be able to buy train tickets using the new method. The application will display a request to register to participate in the trial.

“The research on the feature of using chip-embedded citizen identification cards for passengers under 60 years old to pass through the ticket gate to board the train was carried out in the system's simulation room and was completed to meet the requirements of testing the system's comprehensiveness, so Hanoi Metro did not test this feature with the ticket gate at stations on the route,” said the leader of Hanoi Metro.

In addition, passengers who register to participate will be advised and guided by station staff to register at the information counter at the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway stations.
