Plenary session on October 8 of VINANST 16 conference held at Furama Resort Danang International Convention Palace.
According to Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh, Vietnam has decided to restart the nuclear power development program, and at the same time build and perfect mechanisms, policies and a system of legal documents to promote the atomic energy sector.
In that context, VINANST 16 has the significance of a key scientific event, marking an important development step for the Vietnamese atomic energy industry and for the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) in particular in its core role.
“VINANST 16 is an important forum that brings together a team of domestic and foreign experts and scientists, where the latest research results are exchanged and advanced technology trends are updated. Thereby, it will make practical contributions to the policy-making process and development orientation of the renewable energy sector in Vietnam in the new period,” said Mr. Le Xuan Dinh.
Emphasizing the importance of developing renewable energy as a long-term strategy in ensuring national energy security and sustainable development, Mr. Le Xuan Dinh said that the construction of a nuclear power program needs to be carried out synchronously, focusing on developing high-quality human resources, perfecting mechanisms and policies, and strengthening international cooperation.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh spoke at the conference.
Director of the Regional Cooperation Office of the International Atomic Energy Agency (RCARO) Dae Ki Kim said that currently, nuclear energy accounts for about 9-10% of the total global electricity capacity, with more than 400 nuclear power plants operating in more than 30 countries, creating a solid foundation for the expansion and development of nuclear power in the future.
He pointed out that in the context of artificial intelligence and advanced technologies being strongly applied in research and development of nuclear energy, promoting cooperation and knowledge sharing among countries is extremely necessary.
According to Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Pham Duc An, choosing Da Nang to host VINANST 16 demonstrates the trust of the Ministry of Science and Technology and professional agencies in the city, contributing to affirming the role of Da Nang as a center of science, technology and innovation in the Central Highlands region.
Nuclear power for peaceful purposes is increasingly widely applied in socio-economic fields, making an important contribution to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country. Da Nang City hopes to continue receiving support from ministries, branches, research institutes and international organizations in applying nuclear technology to serve socio-economic development, improve human resources capacity and promote local innovation.
He emphasized that VINANST 16 is an important opportunity for Da Nang to access new research results and scientific solutions, thereby building a scientific basis for policy making in the field of renewable energy and sustainable development. The city aims to become an “innovative city” – where knowledge, technology and people converge to create the future, in addition to the image of a “tourist city” that is already widely known.
