The project to expand the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway has been started and completed, increasing traffic capacity for vehicles on the route.

On October 1, Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) will start construction of the Yen Bai-Lao Cai section expansion project of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai Expressway.

According to the report of the Ministry of Construction , the 245km Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway was put into operation in 2014 by VEC, invested in, managed, exploited and maintained, of which the Noi Bai-Yen Bai section has 4 lanes and the Yen Bai-Lao Cai section has 2 lanes.

During the exploitation process, some sections of the route have shown local damage to the road surface. The Ministry of Construction has directed the Vietnam Road Administration to regularly coordinate with VEC to carry out inspection and repair work, ensuring traffic safety and meeting the travel needs of the people.

The leaders of the Ministry of Construction assessed that the Noi Bai-Lao Cai route is a radial expressway, which has been in operation for over 10 years. The Yen Bai-Lao Cai route is currently being operated with a scale of 2 lanes, without a median strip, so traffic capacity is limited. When the number of vehicles increases, there will be potential traffic safety risks for people and vehicles traveling on the route, especially on weekends, holidays and Tet.

Based on the report of VEC and the comments of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Construction has issued a document reporting to the Prime Minister on the investment plan for the Yen Bai-Lao Cai section expansion project of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway. The Prime Minister then agreed to assign VEC as the competent authority to implement the project investment.

Up to now, the Project has been approved by the VEC Board of Members in principle for investment, approved the investment project to expand 121.33km from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, with a hard median strip along the entire route.

On October 1, VEC will start construction of the Yen Bai-Lao Cai section expansion project of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway.

The project has a total investment of 7,667.84 billion VND, with implementation period from 2025 to 2027. However, VEC is striving to complete it in 2026./.
