In 2021, Ms. Vu Thi Dung, Yen Bai ward, Lao Cai province received a diagnosis of stage 3 lung cancer. After 8 months of treatment at the Central Lung Hospital but could not be operated on, the doctor advised her to go home.

Not giving up on her fate, she decided to overcome her illness on her own. After many days of searching for knowledge on social networks, reading successful "reversal" stories, learning carefully about nutrition, rest and how to use willpower to overcome illness, she found jogging - a seemingly simple method but containing the power to heal both body and mind.
At that moment, she knew she had found her way and began her first difficult steps the next morning.
Dung’s running journey began in loneliness and doubt. Friends and relatives were worried, even strongly opposed, because for a lung cancer patient, breathing was already difficult, so why choose this sport that requires terrible endurance?
"At first, no one believed I could run. But I persevered, ran 100 steps, then walked, rested, and then continued running," Dung recounted.
The image of a skinny woman, struggling for breath on the street, stopping and then trying to run again, is a testament to her extraordinary willpower. She has set an iron discipline for herself: not to give up, not even for a day.

At that time, she did not run with her breath but with her will to survive. Gradually, a miracle happened, the walking periods became less frequent, the running distance became longer. The first month, the second month, then the third month, she was able to run a full 5 km without stopping. Her breathing was also more even, no longer urgent, chest tightness, or discomfort. At that moment, she knew she had conquered herself and regained control of her life.
As her health gradually improved, Dung joined the Yen Bai Runner Club to learn more about running techniques and expand her network.
Mr. Hoang Duc Chien, a member of Yen Bai Runner Club, shared: "I have participated in many races with Ms. Dung. There were races that took place when the weather was not favorable, the running course was very difficult, but she always tried to reach the finish line with the top female athletes with normal health."
After only four months of hard training, from a sick and weak woman, she boldly registered to participate and conquer the 42 km distance (Full Marathon).
Even more amazingly, Ms. Dung finished with an impressive achievement: 42 km in about 5 hours and 30 minutes.
Also at that tournament, the story of warrior Vu Thi Dung, who overcame illness to complete the 42km distance, became an endless source of inspiration in the Runner community.

After 4 years of running and eating scientifically and reasonably, Ms. Vu Thi Dung's health is now stable. She maintains the habit of regular exercise, keeping herself mentally and disciplined with running.
Every step she takes is an affirmation: We have the right to choose how we live, even when facing the line between life and death.
Ms. Dung runs not only to be healthier, but also to live fully with her passion.

With her determination, she not only defeated cancer but also defeated despair, fear and her own limitations.
With each step on the Full Marathon track, she rewrote the "definition" of life, proving that: strong will is one of the most effective medicines.
