Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong pays official visit to Vietnam

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong will begin an official visit to Vietnam from tomorrow, August 19.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong is set to visit Indonesia and Vietnam.

According to the announcement on August 18 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong will pay an official visit to Vietnam and co-chair the 7th Vietnam-Australia Foreign Ministers' Meeting from August 19-21.

Minister Penny Wong's visit took place shortly after the 10th Strategic Dialogue on Diplomacy and Defense (2+2) between Vietnam and Australia in Canberra (August 5). The Vietnamese delegation was co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong and Major General Duong Quy Nam, Director of the Institute for International Defense Relations, Ministry of National Defense . The Australian delegation was co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Michelle Chan and Deputy Defense Minister Hugh Jeffrey.

On the same day, Minister Penny Wong issued a statement saying that she will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son and other senior leaders to discuss common priorities, including trade and investment, climate change, education, cyber technology and critical technology.

At the 7th Vietnam-Australia Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the two sides will promote cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially in the fields of human resource development, digital economy and green energy transition.

According to Ms. Penny Wong, education, trade and investment relations between Australia and Vietnam are always a top priority. The head of Australian diplomacy "looks forward to meeting business leaders and alumni of Australian educational institutions to discuss ways to enhance bilateral trade and investment, through the implementation of Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040".

Vietnam is one of two destinations on Minister Penny Wong's Southeast Asia tour, along with Indonesia.
