Dare to think, dare to do

After being discharged from the army in 2003, veteran Alang Bia returned to his hometown and joined the work in the commune. For many years, he attended training courses and visited to learn from economic development models, from which he determined to boldly change his mindset to try to get rich.

Realizing the great need for pure drinking water of local people and neighboring areas, in 2023, Alang Bia was determined to start a business with this model. From many sources, he invested more than 200 million VND in bottled water production line.

From the source water after being taken to the tank, it is processed through the reverse osmosis (RO) and Ozone system according to US technology, sterilized with ultraviolet (UV) lamp. The product quality is certified by the Food Safety Department of Quang Nam province (old), with full codes and barcodes.

In the early stages, he lacked experience, so production encountered difficulties and suffered capital losses. Undaunted, Mr. Bia learned from many people's experiences as well as researched the consumer market and diversified bottle capacities. With perseverance and good product quality, gradually, Alangbia purified drinking water products were trusted and ordered by many people.

Currently, the Alangbia purified drinking water production facility has been invested in and upgraded to reach a capacity of 2,000 - 3,000 liters of bottled filtered water, including a modern filter tank with large capacity, ensuring water supply to the market 24/7.

Mr. Bia also creates more jobs for local people. “Thanks to the support from my family and the Veterans Association, I am more confident to try my hand. From my own experience, I am willing to share to encourage everyone in the village to boldly develop the economy and enrich my homeland,” Mr. Alang Bia shared.

In R'cung village, everyone knows the family of Ms. Bnuong Thi Blac (born in 1982) who has escaped poverty sustainably with her economic model. Blac was born into a poor family, working on the fields, and when she got married, the whole family also relied on farming to make a living.

Having been repeatedly campaigned to escape poverty, she discussed with her husband about “trying” to open a grocery store to sell necessities to the villagers. Gradually, with a little capital, she boldly invested in growing crops and developing livestock.

Up to now, Blac is growing 1.6 hectares of oranges with more than 700 trees. In 2024, the income from selling oranges was more than 30 million VND. At the same time, she also grows green-skinned grapefruit, earning tens of millions of VND per crop.

Taking advantage of the available garden land and local food sources, Ms. Blac developed a model of raising native chickens and commercial chickens to supply to traders in the lowlands. Each year, she raises 3 batches of chickens with a quantity of about 1,500 chickens, selling them for more than 200 million VND.

Typical farmers

Currently, Ms. Blac is also growing more than 3 hectares of cinnamon trees and 2 hectares of acacia trees, which are about to reach the harvest stage with an estimated profit of hundreds of millions of dong. At the same time, she also boldly buys cinnamon trees from people's gardens to process and sell to traders. On average, each year she sells about 10 tons of cinnamon bark, which not only meets the standards required by traders, but also helps people consume products and increase income when participating in cinnamon exploitation.

The couple also saved up to buy a truck and two excavators to level the ground, dig ponds, and transport construction materials. The average monthly income from motor vehicles is about 150 million VND, and local workers also earn 12 million VND/person. Ms. Bnuong Thi Blac confided: "We gradually learned a little bit of each thing, and when we made mistakes, we did it again, and with a little luck and support from the village and commune, we have achieved what we have today. I also shared and encouraged people in the village to boldly approach support sources to develop the economy, starting from small models within our own scope."

In the near future, her family will also invest in buying more large trucks to trade in construction materials to supply to people in and outside the commune. Recently, Ms. Bnướch Thi Blac was one of 95 faces recognized by the Da Nang City Farmers' Association as "Good Farmers in Production and Business" in the city for the period 2020 - 2025.

Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Avuong Commune, Briu Thi Linh, said that in recent years, the locality has always identified poverty reduction as a political task. "We have vigorously implemented support mechanisms and policies from the central government and the city to propagate and mobilize people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty. Thanks to that, the poverty rate in the commune has decreased to 41.38%. This result is also thanks to the determination of the people to escape poverty," Ms. Linh emphasized.
