People ignore warnings when traveling through dangerous sinking bridge

Cau Nhi Bridge is located on Highway DH.56 connecting Hai Phong and Hai Son communes, Hai Lang district; it is also the connection point between Hai Phong commune and National Highway 1. The bridge was put into use in 1985. The flood that occurred on October 14, 2023 caused the bridge piers, iron beams and bridge deck to collapse by nearly 1 meter, posing a danger to people and vehicles.

Chairman of Hai Phong Commune People's Committee Bui Xuan Giang said that the flood that occurred on October 14, 2023 caused the bridge piers, iron beams and Cau Nhi bridge deck to collapse by nearly 1 meter, posing a danger to people and vehicles. In response to this situation, Hai Phong Commune promptly reported to Hai Lang District People's Committee.

To ensure the safety of the people, the People's Committee of Hai Lang district has directed Hai Phong and Hai Son communes to temporarily install warning signs prohibiting cars, three-wheelers, and tractors from crossing Cau Nhi bridge; motorbikes, scooters, and pedestrians are allowed to cross but must keep a safe distance, crossing one vehicle at a time; and not gathering in large crowds on the bridge... However, many people are still subjective and do not comply with warnings when crossing this bridge.

On February 22, 2024, Chairman of Hai Lang District People's Committee Le Duc Thinh inspected the construction progress of Cau Nhi - Hai Tan bridge (new bridge next to Cau Nhi bridge) and requested Manh Linh Construction Company Limited (construction contractor) to take advantage of favorable weather to mobilize maximum human resources, materials, and machinery to work overtime, speeding up progress according to plan. Strive to open the technical route before June 30, 2024 to serve the safe traffic of the people.

However, according to observations by reporters of Quang Tri Newspaper, on February 28, 2024, many people riding motorbikes and scooters ignored warning signs to cross this bridge.

According to the plan, there are still about 4 months left for the Cau Nhi - Hai Tan bridge to be technically open. The local authorities need to increase the number of functional forces on duty to propagate and mobilize people to cross the bridge according to warnings to ensure safety.
