On February 25 (January 16), the Hai Luu buffalo fighting festival opened, attracting thousands of locals and tourists from all over to attend.

Thousands of people and many tourists from all over the country came to attend the traditional buffalo fighting festival in Hai Luu commune, Song Lo district, Vinh Phuc province.

The 2024 Hai Luu Buffalo Fighting Festival will officially take place over two days from February 25 to 26 (January 16 to 17, the year of the Dragon) at Hai Luu Commune Stadium.

The festival featured 20 fighting bulls – locally known as “Mr. Cau” from 10 villages competing. Despite the unfavorable weather and heavy rain, thousands of people gathered at the bull fighting arena to witness the “Mr. Cau” fights.

On February 25, there will be 12 matches to select the winners to continue competing in the matches tomorrow (January 17).

To prepare for this festival, many buffalo owners have to travel to many regions to select their favorite buffaloes, then spend a whole year taking care of and training them.

The Hai Luu buffalo fighting festival was discontinued for a long time and was restored in 2002. According to legend, this festival dates back to the 2nd century BC.
