Two days after Giao Thong Newspaper reported on the silence of the Hoang Hoa Tham Street expansion project leading to Tan Son Nhat Airport's T3 terminal, the demolition work began to accelerate.

On the morning of February 23, Giao Thong Newspaper's reporter recorded that about 20 households simultaneously demolished part of the area belonging to the project to expand Hoang Hoa Tham Street from the intersection of Hoang Hoa Tham - Cong Hoa to Tan Son Nhat Airport.

Many households said that this was a request from the Tan Binh District Compensation and Site Clearance Board after agreeing on compensation for affected households.

Previously, on February 21, Giao Thong Newspaper reported that the project to expand the road to Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal was still inactive.

Meanwhile, the T3 terminal project worth more than VND10,000 billion is speeding up progress to meet the capacity of 20 million passengers per year.

The project to widen Hoang Hoa Tham Street from the military barracks gate (next to the airport) to Cong Hoa Street is more than 783m long, expected to be widened to 22m instead of 10m as present.

The project was approved in October 2016 with a total investment of 254 billion VND. However, the slow progress of site clearance has caused public concern about the possibility of connecting to Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal.

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy (73 years old, living in Ward 13, Tan Binh District) said that her family agreed and highly approved the project to upgrade and expand Hoang Hoa Tham Street connecting to Tan Son Nhat Terminal T3. "Currently, my family has basically completed the demolition work, meeting the progress of handing over the site in March. I hope that the project will be completed and put into operation soon, which will help reduce traffic jams and make the house more spacious," Ms. Thuy shared.

The project to expand Hoang Hoa Tham Street to connect to Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport has affected 152 households. The Compensation and Site Clearance Board of Tan Binh District said that the consensus rate for receiving compensation has reached more than 80%.

A representative of the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) said that the project could not be implemented because the site clearance work was quite slow. Up to now, 102 households have received compensation and committed to handing over the site in March. Of the remaining 50 households, 25 have accepted the compensation price and agreed to hand over. Tan Binh District is making efforts to hand over the site to the Traffic Board to carry out bidding procedures and start the project connecting to Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal.
