Urgent cleaning and sanitation of the environment
In many low-lying areas along the Con River, passing through Tan Ky commune, after the floodwaters gradually receded, mud covered the yards, village roads, and even stuck to the walls of houses.

In each house, people gathered to clean up, wash away the mud, rebuild tables and chairs, rearrange beds and wardrobes, and collect damaged household items.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tuan, a resident of Dien Nam hamlet, shared: My family has been here since before 1980, never witnessed the Con River rising so fast and high, in just one night on October 1, the flood water rose nearly 2m to the house. The family had to evacuate urgently, all the furniture left behind is now almost completely damaged. But that's it, as long as we have people, we still have property, now we have to focus on fixing things to stabilize our lives. For now, we use water to clean the house, wash all the utensils, and take advantage of the sunny weather to dry the rice.

At Dien Nam Kindergarten, many people are gathering to use car washers to clean mud off tables, chairs, computers, televisions and many other school supplies. Many of these items have been thrown away because they are damaged beyond repair.
The school principal, teacher Nguyen Thi Dung, said: Never before has floodwaters flooded the entire first floor like this flood. Mud was thick in the classrooms, tables and chairs were tilted, books were all wet. Since the afternoon of October 2, the floodwaters have receded, all the equipment in the two kindergarten classrooms, including: TVs, computers, printers... were completely damaged. The estimated damage is about 200 million VND. With the support of local officials and the Tan Ky High School Youth Union who directly came to help clean up and repair, by the end of October 3, the cleanup was basically completed, but it will not be ready to welcome students back until early next week.

Immediately after the flood receded, local authorities mobilized militia, youth union members, police, and soldiers to go down to villages and hamlets to help people clear mud and clear sewers.

Environmental sanitation and disease prevention after floods have received special attention. Local authorities have distributed chemicals and used lime powder to disinfect barns and wells. The health sector has stepped up guidance for people on water treatment, food preservation, and prevention of cholera, dengue fever, and gastrointestinal diseases.

Humanity in adversity
In times of hardship, the spirit of “helping each other” was strongly promoted. Even when the floodwaters were rising, many volunteer groups used motorboats to reach deeply flooded households to provide relief. Following that were convoys of trucks carrying instant noodles, drinking water, and clothes from neighboring areas, led by organizations to the flooded areas of Tan Ky commune. Local people shared each package of noodles and bottle of water with each other, helping each other overcome the consequences.

According to statistics from the Fatherland Front Committee of Tan Ky commune, this historic flood has flooded 2,102 households, with nearly 10,000 people from 20/25 hamlets having to evacuate and relocate urgently. As of the morning of October 4,
The Fatherland Front Committee of Tan Ky commune has received relief goods from 4 organizations outside the province, along with many individuals and organizations inside and outside the district, with a total value of more than 423 million VND, mainly instant noodles, drinking water and other foods. In addition, the commune also used emergency relief funds to buy thousands of boxes of instant noodles and drinking water to promptly support the people.

Currently, the water level of the Con River is gradually receding, however, as of the morning of October 4, over 100 households in Tan Ky commune are still flooded. The hamlets are continuing to count the damage to crops, livestock and other items.
The people of Tan Ky commune wish to have a team of volunteer electricians come to help them repair the flooded electrical equipment. Because after this flood, there will be thousands of electrical equipment submerged in water, damaged, and need to be repaired./.
