On the evening of September 9, the U23 Vietnam team defeated U23 Yemen 1-0 in the final round of Group C of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers at Viet Tri Stadium ( Phu Tho ). With 3 wins in a row, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team topped Group C and won a ticket to the Final Round.
Thanh Nhan was the hero of the Vietnam U23 team in this match. He passed the ball well with Van Thuan to enter the penalty area and then shot past the Yemen U23 goalkeeper, scoring the only goal of the match in the 70th minute.
It is noteworthy that Thanh Nhan was not the choice of coach Kim Sang Sik in the starting lineup. He only entered the field as a substitute in the 40th minute along with Dinh Bac and Van Thuan. The Korean coach was forced to replace all three strikers on the attack line because of ineffective performance.
Due to a last-minute injury, Thanh Nhan could not join the Vietnam U23 team to compete and win the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Indonesia at the end of July.
Returning in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, Thanh Nhan was sent by coach Kim Sang Sik to start in the 2-0 win over U23 Bangladesh. He did not make an impression in the opening match, so he was only sent on as a substitute in the wins over U23 Singapore and U23 Yemen and had time to shine.
Speaking after the match, Thanh Nhan said he was very happy to score to help the Vietnam U23 team win and qualify for the 2026 AFC U23 Championship Finals.
"Vietnam U23 just won the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship and now has a ticket to the 2026 Asian U23 Finals. How do you feel about this period?", the reporter asked.
Thanh Nhan shared: "This is a useful and very necessary time for the U23 Vietnam generation and the future Vietnam team."
This is the 6th consecutive time that U23 Vietnam has won a ticket to the U23 Asia finals, a very impressive achievement.
