The new Phong Chau Bridge construction investment project was built under an emergency construction order to overcome the consequences of the collapse of the old Phong Chau Bridge caused by storm No. 3 on September 9, 2024. The Thang Long Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction) was assigned as the project investor.
The project's construction unit is Truong Son Construction Corporation (Ministry of National Defense). The project started on December 21, 2024 and was completed after only about 9 months of construction, 3 months ahead of schedule compared to the contract. To achieve this result, the contractor organized continuous construction in the spirit of "3 shifts, 4 teams".
The project has a total length of about 652.88m, connecting Phung Nguyen commune and Van Xuan commune (Phu Tho province). The bridge section alone is 383.3m long. The project is designed according to the scale of a level III plain road, speed of 80km/h, with 4 lanes for motor vehicles.
The project has a total approved investment of 635,392 billion VND from the central budget. However, the total estimated cost upon completion is only about 438,796 billion VND, saving 196,596 billion VND compared to the total investment. The Ministry of Construction has proposed using this surplus capital to invest in upgrading the 5km connecting road.
The early completion of the project is of great significance in ensuring smooth traffic on National Highway 32C, connecting the regional traffic network, creating favorable conditions for people to travel, while supporting socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security.
For nearly a year, to resolve the urgent situation, the 249th Engineer Brigade has built and operated a pontoon bridge, serving about 15,000 people and vehicles per day, contributing to maintaining the traffic artery in the area.
