Vietnamese models perform fashion show in -8 degree Celsius weather in Korea

This is the opening activity for the project The New Generation Of Model initiated by model Xuan Lan.

The project includes exhibitions, photo books and fashion videos recording the imprints of generations of Vietnamese models, carried out in major fashion capitals around the world .

Fashion show in -8 degree Celsius weather

On the evening of March 14, the art photography exhibition and the announcement of the fashion film The New Generation Of Models 2024 took place at a studio in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

These pictures and videos were taken in Korea.

Model Xuan Lan said the crew initially planned to film at Nami Island - the location that was the setting for the movie Winter Sonata. .

However, when the group arrived, the snow had melted and only two rows of trees remained. Meanwhile, the crew's idea was to take photos on a white snowy background, so they had to move to another location, 4 hours away.

"To get to the new location, the crew had to walk for about 45 minutes in -8 degree Celsius weather. To ensure a beautiful photo set and to keep the design's shape, the models did not wear thermal clothing.

Because the weather is so cold, sometimes the models' limbs become numb. There are models who have been abroad for many years but still cannot stand such cold weather, having difficulty breathing" - Xuan Lan said.

She added that adults had to take off their coats to cover the children because their endurance was weaker.

Luckily, the crew completed the photo and video shoot in 2 consecutive days without any injuries. This was probably a memorable experience for both the models and the crew.

Resilience through every photo

Xuan Lan said there are 25 models participating in The New Generation Of Models project in Korea.

In addition to Xuan Lan, there were also Thuy Trang, Nguyen Hop, Tram Anh, Lam Thanh Nha, Thien An, Sarah Tran, Cherry Khanh My, Dai Phong, Huyen Trang, Minh Anh, Trong Phuong, Quynh Trang, Kien Dat... performing 50 designs in the Rainbow Snow collection by designer Tommy Tuong Le.

Director Nguyen Ngoc Lam said this was the first fashion show that made him most nervous. Because the models were not yet accustomed to the cold weather, their hands could easily get frostbite.

To get impressive photos, photographer Kien Can and his crew sometimes had to lie down in the snow and walk into the stream. This caused his costume to freeze and he could not take it off.

Kien Can told Tuoi Tre Online that the show was not as expected due to objective conditions, but he felt the spirit in each photo was the effort and resilience of the models when performing in a very cold space.

"Although it was freezing cold, to make the photos come alive, the models accepted the cold and had snow thrown at them. It can be said that this was a difficulty but a challenge to create beautiful photos and videos.

The first time I took pictures with real snow, I was worried that the model would be cold so I took pictures as quickly as possible according to the model's emotions, without having time to calculate the angle or review the photos" - Kien Can added.
