Chicken is the main livestock of Dong Nai province, contributing greatly to the overall development of the livestock industry. Not only industrial chickens, free-range chicken farming is also shifting strongly from small-scale household farming to farm farming or chain farming to increase competitive advantage.
High price, high demand
In recent months, the price of industrial chickens has been very high, ranging from 36-38 thousand VND/kg; the price of industrially raised chickens ranges from 55-65 thousand VND/kg; free-range chickens range from 100-110 thousand VND/kg. With this price, both industrial chicken and free-range chicken farmers have very good profits to invest.
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Dai, owner of a chicken farm in Phu Hoa commune (Dong Nai province) said: Since the beginning of the year, the price of free-range chicken has been stable at a high level, and farmers have earned good profits. Due to the increasing demand for free-range chicken, many local farms have invested in new farms to expand their scale. Free-range chicken is the main livestock of Phu Hoa commune. This is a farming model that brings high economic efficiency in the locality.
The weather is in the rainy season with factors that are unfavorable to the health of livestock and poultry. Accordingly, farmers need to implement good solutions on vaccines and biosafety farming to improve the resistance of livestock, ensure that livestock herds are free of disease, and have a ready supply to serve the market for the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo 2026.
Mr. NGUYEN TRUONG GIANG, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries
After the merger, Dong Nai province became the “capital” of poultry farming in the country, with a total herd of about 36.5 million birds. Of which, the total chicken herd is nearly 33 million; large-scale industrial chicken farming in automatic and semi-automatic cold cages accounts for a large proportion.
Vice President of the Southeast Poultry Association Le Van Quyet said: Dong Nai is among the top in the country in chicken farming. Chicken meat products raised in the province are not only supplied to the domestic market but also exported to demanding markets such as Japan. In recent times, the price of industrial chickens has often been stable at a high level due to increasing market demand while supply is in short supply. One of the reasons is that since the Covid-19 pandemic, some supply chains have been broken, making it difficult to import chicken breeds to Vietnam. Poultry farming in general, and chicken farming in particular, has gradually shifted to an industrial farming model. Even household-scale chicken farming is forming chains linked with methodical farming processes, ensuring biosafety to increase competitive advantages in the market.
New crop expectations
Currently, chicken farms are preparing for the new crop to supply the market for the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo 2026. Some facilities are also increasing their herds in anticipation of the Tet market, this item will continue to have high prices.
Accordingly, the price of domestic chicken breeds has also increased continuously. Currently, the price of imported chicken breeds ranges from 16-18 thousand VND/chicken, about 4 thousand VND/chicken higher than a month ago.
According to Mr. Dai, the owner of a chicken farm in Phu Hoa commune, a locality famous for its land chicken breed (also known as yellow chicken, a native chicken breed of Vietnam), industrial chicken breeds are usually only sold after about 3 months, but with this breed, farmers usually only have 2 batches per year. The farms are built under the canopy of trees with large spaces for the chickens to move around. In particular, the crop supplied to the Lunar New Year market is usually castrated roosters. This is a specialty that is consumed strongly during Tet.
Mr. Phan Dang Chanh, owner of Long Khanh chicken farm in Xuan Lap ward (Dong Nai province) has joined with many members to build a chain of herbal bantam chicken farming. Chicken feed is mixed with herbs to increase the resistance of livestock, while also producing more delicious and nutritious meat than conventional farming methods. This herbal bantam chicken farming chain has been invested in a closed system from the stage of self-producing breeds, linking farms to distributing many products to the market such as: herbal bantam chicken meat, herbal bantam chicken eggs, herbal capon roosters... In response to the increasing demand of the market, the facility will continue to expand its scale because this is a farming model that brings high economic profits.
Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Department of Agriculture and Environment, assessed: After the merger, Dong Nai has favorable weather conditions, large land fund, geographical location associated with populous consumer markets... very favorable for livestock development.
The livestock industry in general, and chicken farming in particular, in order to develop sustainably, needs to apply advanced technology from the breeding stage to the farming process. In particular, livestock farming must follow a chain link to help reduce costs and stabilize production. Currently, in Dong Nai, there are 2 enterprises investing in processing and exporting chicken meat. To increase chicken exports, livestock farms need to apply scientific advances and biosafety farming to meet export standards.
