The Liverpool striker and his younger brother were confirmed dead in the traffic accident.
Witness speaks out about Diogo Jota's crash: 'Normal speed'
On July 9, the Civil Police in Zamora announced the initial investigation into this tragic accident. They said that Diogo Jota was driving and he was traveling over the speed limit, more than 120 km/h. The Civil Police in Zamora emphasized that the speed of the car was much different from the allowed speed, leading to the car losing control when the tire exploded.
However, just one day later, Mr. José Aleixo Duarte (Portuguese) - who witnessed the accident suddenly shared with CM newspaper, saying that the police announcement was incorrect. Mr. José Aleixo Duarte shared: "They passed my car for about 5 minutes when the accident happened. The fire was very big and spread quickly, there was almost no way to put it out. Before that, Diogo Jota and his brother were moving at a moderate speed, far from what the police announced."

In addition to refuting the police announcements, Mr. José Aleixo Duarte also emphasized the poor condition of the A-52: “The A-52 is degraded and has too many dangerous spots. For long-distance drivers, if they are not careful, they can have an accident at any time.”
Following the sharing of Mr. José Aleixo Duarte, truck driver José Azevedo, the author of the video that released the first images of the Lamborghini carrying the two brothers Diogo Jota and Andre Silva on fire, also spoke up.
“I filmed, stopped and tried to help. Unfortunately, I could do nothing because the fire was so big. My conscience is completely clear. I know what I went through that night and I send my deepest condolences to Diogo Jota’s family,” said José Azevedo.
Similar to José Aleixo Duarte's statement, driver José Azevedo continued to refute the Spanish police: “I drive on that road every day, from Monday to Saturday. I know everything here very well and seem to be familiar with the cars that pass by. My family and I can confirm that the Diogo Jota brothers were not speeding as the police reported. I could see the make and color of the car when they passed me. Although it was dark, they drove very calmly. But unfortunately, something bad happened and their trip ended in a tragic accident."
Mr. José Azevedo was a witness to the incident and posted a video of the accident.
