On September 17, within the framework of the 22nd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) in Nanning, China, a Roundtable Dialogue between the Vietnamese Government and CEOs of Chinese enterprises took place.

The theme of this year's conference is "Innovation promotes Vietnam - China cooperation, digital transformation creates momentum for win-win cooperation".

In his opening speech, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh emphasized that the Party and Government of Vietnam consider science and technology, innovation and digital transformation (S&T) as breakthrough driving forces to help the country "catch up, progress together, break through and surpass".

The Deputy Prime Minister informed about important policies such as Resolution 57, the Law on Science, Technology and Innovation, and the Law on Digital Technology Industry - important legal foundations for the new development stage, creating a favorable corridor for domestic and foreign enterprises, including Chinese enterprises.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Vietnamese Government is committed to maintaining a transparent, open, equal investment environment in accordance with international practices.

On behalf of China, Mr. Ren Hongbin – Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Mr. Wei Thao – Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, highlighted the role of digital economic cooperation, infrastructure connection and people-to-people exchange. Major Chinese technology corporations expressed their desire to invest in Vietnam in the fields of renewable energy, railways, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital economy – industries considered new growth drivers.

At the conference, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam Bui Hoang Phuong emphasized that science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are becoming important development drivers, contributing to enhancing competitiveness not only for China but also for ASEAN and Vietnam.

By 2024, ASEAN had emerged as a leading destination for venture capital in the fields of digital technology, e-commerce, fintech and smart logistics; while China now has more than 400 unicorns, affirming its pioneering position in global innovation.

According to the Deputy Minister, in addition to digital transformation and innovation, Vietnam and China still have much room to expand cooperation in science and technology, especially in the fields of energy, transport infrastructure, information technology and digital technology. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology will always accompany Chinese and ASEAN enterprises, creating favorable conditions in terms of policy, infrastructure and human resources, turning cooperation initiatives into reality.
