Several buildings in Japan's famous food district caught fire over hot pot

Fire broke out in the direction of the Torimachi Shokudo-gai neighborhood.

NHK reported that the fire started at around 3:10 p.m. local time near one of the most famous food districts in the southern Japanese city of Kitakyushu.

The fire department received multiple fire calls related to an incident at a building near Torimachi Shokudo-gai, a busy restaurant district in the metropolitan area.

About 30 fire trucks quickly gathered at the scene. However, several hours after the fire broke out, the fire continued to rage and spread to buildings near the food court.

Information on casualties and missing people in the incident is unknown.

Torimachi Shokudo-gai was the first food district built in Kitakyushu City after the end of the war.

The first restaurant to catch fire was located on a corner of Torimachi Shokudo-gai, and staff there said the fire started from a hot pot.

The fire site is located about 300 meters north of Tanga Market, which had major fires in April and July 2022.

Plane crash scene at Haneda airport

In the case of two planes colliding on the runway of Tokyo's Haneda Airport on January 2, the Japanese Ministry of Transport released data showing that the Japan Airlines plane received permission to land, while the Japan Coast Guard plane was not yet allowed to land, according to Kyodo News on January 3.

Accordingly, the last exchange between Haneda airport air traffic control and the crew of the plane carrying 379 people on the Japan Airlines flight took place exactly 2 minutes before the tragic accident occurred.

The air traffic controller told the pilot that the runway was clear for landing and the pilot repeated the clearance.

As for the Coast Guard aircraft, the captain also last contacted the tower 2 minutes before the incident. And the captain repeated the tower staff's command to "move to the holding point", but did not give the plane the green light to enter the runway.

At approximately 5:47 p.m. on January 2, two planes collided, causing a large explosion. All passengers on the passenger plane were successfully evacuated, while five of the six people on the Coast Guard plane died.
