Skillseed is a non-profit project founded by a group of students from Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted with the aim of bringing artificial intelligence (AI) closer to students through free AI tools.
After 1 month of operation, the project has attracted more than 10,000 users and more than 1,000 followers on social networks.
Sharing about the idea of establishing Skillseed, Nguyen Dinh Huy (12th grade Cambridge student at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted) said that the project originated from the realization that AI tools are being widely used in life.
"Recently, AI or more specifically ChatGPT has been mentioned in the media as a way to help students with homework. This is a different perspective from what is expected of AI when it is launched at the end of 2022. The Skillseed project was established to prove that AI plays an important role in the field of education . Through useful tools to help students study better in exams like IELTS and SAT, we want to show everyone what AI can do," Dinh Huy shared.

Starting with the application of AI to familiarize students with two important English exams, IELTS and SAT, the project has received support from many students, not only in Vietnam but also in other countries. After 2 weeks of operation, the project's IELTS and SAT tools have achieved more than 10,000 scores.
"For these two English exams, the speaking test is always a challenge that prevents many young people from achieving high scores. Since using the AI tool, users like me have been able to access a rich set of questions and assess my speaking ability, thereby better preparing for the actual exam," said Nguyen Ha Anh (Hanoi), a user of the toolkit.
Skillseed representative added that with an eye-catching, easy-to-understand interface, the tool uses machine learning algorithms and natural language processing to analyze the test content of candidates, providing assessments on factors such as grammar, vocabulary, writing structure, and coherence in ideas. With automatic assessment capabilities, the tool can quickly score writing and speaking, and provide detailed feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of the test, helping candidates understand what needs to be improved.
This AI tool is often trained on a large amount of real IELTS test data, allowing the AI to recognize common language patterns and writing structures. The AI tool that marks IELTS tests brings many benefits, including saving time waiting for results, enhancing candidates' self-study ability and reducing costs compared to hiring professional examiners. Currently, the biggest difficulty of the project is funding, including AI and server usage fees. In the future, the project team plans to create many new tools to help students study well in subjects such as Math, Literature, etc.
