Over 90% of target

Ms. Ngo Thi Quynh Xuan - Principal of Saigon College of Tourism - said that up to this point, the school's enrollment work is also positive, reaching about 90% of the total target.

According to her, the open regulations in 2025 allow schools in the vocational education system to maintain two forms of admission, including receiving direct applications and participating in the common system of the Ministry of Education and Training, contributing to efficiency.

Specifically, the direct application form helps schools to finalize certain cases in advance. Meanwhile, the admission form according to the general system of the Ministry of Education and Training has a positive impact in the final stage of the admission season. Thanks to this system, admission information reaches more students, helping them have more basis for comparison and selection.

Similarly, MSc. Nguyen Thuy Vuong Khanh - Director of the Admissions and Communications Center, Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics - also assessed that encouraging colleges to participate in the common admission system but still allowing direct application acceptance as in previous years is quite appropriate, helping the school to be more proactive and create convenience for candidates in the registration process. The school has completed its enrollment plan, with more than 3,200 quotas for both college and intermediate levels.

MSc. Nguyen Khanh Cuong - Principal of Lilama 2 College (Dong Nai) - said that up to this point, the school has recruited about 90% of the total target. The majors that attract the most candidates are mainly related to the labor demand in large industrial parks in the area such as electricity, electronics, automobiles, mechanics...

In particular, some new majors developed by the school to meet the human resource needs of Long Thanh airport such as aircraft maintenance and ground services have also attracted a significant number of interested candidates.

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Van Hung - Principal of College of Technology II - said that the school has recruited all the students it set out for this year. The most attractive majors are still automobiles, electricity and electronics. Many businesses have proactively placed orders directly with the school, ready to recruit students who have just completed their internships.

Desire to maintain stability

Giving comments on the enrollment policy in 2026, Dr. Hoang Van Phuc expressed his hope that the Ministry of Education and Training would continue to maintain both parallel forms for the vocational education system like this year.

According to him, colleges are already disadvantaged, and if they only follow one form or have to compete 'fairly' with universities, they will face many difficulties. The two forms of admission as they are now are a way to support colleges in recruiting more stably and actively.

Ms. Ngo Thi Quynh Xuan also said that it is possible to consider continuing to maintain both forms in the coming years. If only one admission direction is maintained, it will limit access channels, making it more difficult for colleges in the context of increasingly fierce competition. When combining both, there will be both initiative from the school and widespread information dissemination from the general system.

MSc. Nguyen Khanh Cuong also hopes that when the management of the vocational education system has been assigned to the Ministry of Education and Training, "sharing the same house" with the university education system, there will be more policies to promote vocational education, supporting colleges to expand enrollment. According to him, there should be more new policies, contributing to improving vocational training and meeting human resource needs for both domestic and international markets.

According to Master Nguyen Thuy Vuong Khanh, what colleges hope is that the 2026 university and college admission regulations will have flexible points specifically for the college system, such as still allowing candidates to enroll early.

This has long been a characteristic of vocational education, when colleges and intermediate schools enroll students all year round, linked to the diverse learning needs and lifelong learning of the people. "If this special mechanism is maintained, vocational education will have more motivation to develop, attract more students and better meet the requirements of the labor market," Ms. Khanh emphasized.

Dr. Le Lam - Principal of Dai Viet Sai Gon College - also emphasized the need to give schools more autonomy in admissions, including allowing schools to be autonomous in choosing their admission methods. "Some schools want to join the common system, some want to keep the traditional admission method or combine both, depending on the capacity and resources of each unit," he analyzed.

Vocational education has advantages now

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Van Hung said that 2026 is expected to bring more challenges for vocational schools. In that case, to adapt, schools must also prepare mentally to have to make drastic changes, from training programs to investing in facilities and improving learning experiences. Above all, solving employment after graduation is still the key factor to maintain the attraction of candidates.

Mr. Hung emphasized that the current vocational education system has great advantages in short training time, reasonable tuition fees and high practicality. If at the same time, investment in equipment is promoted and training is linked with employment, colleges can completely compete with many universities with their own unique advantages.

From a macro perspective, he also believes that it is necessary to streamline and restructure the vocational education system to avoid widespread development. "When resources are concentrated, investment will be more focused, training quality will be improved, facilities will be more modern, and this is the foundation for vocational education to make a breakthrough," he said.
