Challengers

“Challengers”, the sports and romance film directed by Luca Guadagnino, had an impressive debut when it rose to the top of the North American box office chart.

The film is a psychological and emotional genre with a theme revolving around the world of sports. Zendaya plays Tashi Duncan, one of the most potential female athletes in the world of tennis. She then gets caught up in a love triangle with two other male players, Patrick Zweig (Josh O'Connor) and Art Donaldson (Mike Faist). The film's story revolves around their complicated relationship from adolescence to adulthood.

According to data from film market research firm Exhibitor Relations, in the first three days of its release, “Challengers” earned $15 million at box offices across North America with positive feedback from critics and general audiences.

Evil Does Not Exist

“Evil Does Not Exist” tells the story of Takumi and his daughter Hana living in Mizubiki village, near Tokyo. One day, the villagers learn of a plan to build a campsite near Takumi’s house, threatening to pollute the village’s water supply and disrupt the natural balance.

The film stars Hitoshi Omika as Takumi, Ryo Nishikawa as his daughter Hana, Ryuji Kosaka as Takahashi, and Ayaka Shibutani as Mayuzumi, two representatives of the Glamping resort construction company.

“Evil Does Not Exist” premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize as well as the FIPRESCI Prize from the International Federation of Film Critics.

Inside Out 2

The animated film “Inside Out 2” (Vietnamese title: Emotional Pieces 2) takes the theme of teenage crisis, mentioning the struggles that young people have to face.

Directed by Kelsey Mann, the film is set two years after the events of the first part. Riley turns 13, experiencing many psychological changes. The five emotions Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger, and Fear struggle to help Riley cope with the new things at hockey camp. While trying to control their master's mood, the emotions constantly argue.

The film is receiving high scores on review platforms and is predicted to surpass “Dune: Part II” to become the blockbuster with the highest opening weekend revenue of 2024 as of now.

I Saw the TV Glow

“I Saw the TV Glow” is considered one of the blockbuster movies to look forward to this summer.

This is a horror film revolving around the story of a teenager named Owen, who is in trouble after moving from the city to the suburbs. At the new school, Owen is introduced by a classmate to participate in a mysterious late-night show. After that, the young man is drawn into the content of the show and quickly realizes that this is not just a simple entertainment program but has a mysterious supernatural power that makes it difficult for participants to control their behavior.

“I Saw the TV Glow” is rated 91/100 on Rottentomatoes. This is considered a pretty high score for the horror genre today.

The Fall Guy

“The Fall Guy” (Vietnamese title: The Substitute) brings a promising combination between Ryan Gosling and director David Leitch, one of Hollywood's top action film directors in recent years.

“The Fall Guy” is based on the ABC television series of the same name that aired from 1981-1986 and starred Lee Majors, Douglas Barr, and Heather Thomas. The film revolves around Colt Seavers, an unemployed stuntman who is recruited by his ex-girlfriend to star in a big-budget Hollywood action film.

The Fall Guy stars Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Winston Duke, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Stephanie Hsu. The film grossed about $28.5 million in its opening weekend, according to Exhibitor Relations.
