Female 'digital engineers' in schools

GD&TĐ - Female teachers are not only knowledge transmitters, but also "digital engineers" who silently create smart, modern and creative classrooms.

Despite challenges in terms of generational gaps, technological skills, or traditional teaching habits, the stories of many female teachers who are pioneers in applying technology show that they are not only knowledge transmitters, but also "digital engineers" who quietly create smart, modern, and creative classrooms.

Lighting up the “digital classroom”

In Tho Chau island special zone (An Giang), applying information technology in schools is not an easy journey. Ms. Ha Thi Oanh - Vice Principal of Tho Chau Primary and Secondary School said that most of the students are children of fishermen, with difficult economic conditions, and parents have little opportunity to access technology.

Therefore, when implementing the Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV) Open School model, she and her colleagues faced many obstacles, from students being confused when approaching technology to many older teachers having difficulty using teaching software.

Overcoming all, Ms. Oanh and the teachers in the school have gradually mastered the technology and confidently applied it to teaching. “The most wonderful thing is that students become more interested, learn at their own pace and receive immediate feedback,” Ms. Oanh shared. Difficulties do not discourage the school staff, on the contrary, they further motivate them to persevere in bringing knowledge to students on remote islands.

Not only deploying the Khan Academy platform in teaching, Tho Chau Primary and Secondary School also organizes many online playgrounds such as: VioEdu, Trang Nguyen Tieng Viet... to help students get acquainted with technology. According to Ms. Oanh, bringing students closer to the digital learning environment not only creates excitement but also helps them become more confident when entering modern educational programs.

“We are not only teachers but also companions with students on their journey of knowledge discovery. Students are excited to enter the wide open world of learning - something they only dared to dream of before,” Ms. Oanh said emotionally. For students who are exposed to technology for the first time, the patience and dedication of teachers is the “key” to opening the door to the world of digital knowledge, helping them to be more confident and proactive in their studies and in their own future.

Digital transformation with knowledge and love for the profession

Passionate about English and information technology, Ms. Vu Ngoc Lan - a teacher at Giao Thien Primary School (Giao Minh, Ninh Binh) has won the Special Prize in the 2024 English Electronic Lesson Design Competition. After the competition, Ms. Lan has accumulated valuable experience in script building, designing and digitizing lessons, applying them directly to her daily teaching work.

Ms. Lan will continue to apply the knowledge and skills she has learned to design E-learning lessons and digital teaching equipment for other subjects, helping students have more vivid, proactive and effective learning experiences. In 3 consecutive years of study, she has won many provincial awards: Second Prize in the E-learning Lesson Design Competition for the 2021-2022 school year; two Second Prizes for the 2022-2023 school year; and one First Prize and one Third Prize in the Digital Teaching Equipment Design Competition for the 2023-2024 school year.

According to Ms. Lan, innovation in teaching methods is an inevitable requirement in the process of fundamental and comprehensive innovation of the education sector. For her, information technology is not only a tool to support teaching and learning, but also a bridge to help students get closer to world knowledge. "I am always aware of the need to improve my knowledge and practice technology skills to create lively lectures, helping students absorb lessons more actively and independently," Ms. Lan confided.

Despite her young age, this teacher from the Northern Delta has become a role model for the spirit of learning and creativity. “I want to live with passion, be creative and contribute more to the education sector. My greatest happiness is seeing students happy, bold, confident and increasingly mature. In the digital transformation process, we not only “teach words”, but also guide students into the digital world, spreading the spirit of innovation, creativity and humanity of the teaching profession in the 4.0 era,” Ms. Lan confided.

In the digital transformation journey of the education sector, the image of female teachers in remote and disadvantaged areas striving to master technology and create new teaching methods is becoming more and more familiar. The story of Ms. Ly Thi Thanh Vinh - Principal of Duc Ninh Secondary School (Tuyen Quang) is a vivid demonstration of that spirit: Teachers not only teach letters, but are also "digital engineers" who create lively lessons, opening up opportunities for students to access modern knowledge.

In a suburban school, where many students come from poor families, many have to wait until late at night to borrow a phone from their parents who work far away, or share a device with their older siblings. Understanding the students' circumstances, Ms. Vinh and her colleagues proactively arranged for them to use computers in the school's IT room, directly guiding each learning operation in the digital environment.

These efforts quickly brought positive results. At first, students were still confused and needed close supervision from teachers. But after only a few weeks, they were able to study on their own, support each other, become more interested in class and boldly share knowledge. Many students also expanded to learning Math in English, demonstrating a proactive spirit and aspiration to improve.

For Ms. Vinh, digital transformation is not only an inevitable trend in education but also a driving force for teachers to renew themselves. “If we do not innovate, we will fall behind. Students today have many learning opportunities, so teachers must strive to become companions and guides, not just transmitters,” she shared.

The teaching staff of Duc Ninh Secondary School regularly organizes professional activities, exchanges experiences through online groups, and together finds solutions to improve teaching effectiveness. These training and sharing sessions help teachers become more confident in applying technology, while also expanding their thinking about the role of teachers in the digital age.

Looking ahead, Ms. Ly Thi Thanh Vinh believes that the journey of digital transformation in education is not just a story of technology, but a journey of knowledge, perseverance and the heart of the teacher. Each innovative lesson, each more confident student is the "sweet fruit" of those persistent efforts. And in the suburbs of Tuyen Quang, the "digital engineers" on the podium are contributing every day to brighten the future of students with their love for the profession and their desire for innovation.
