Central football sadness: Binh Dinh and Hue relegated, Da Nang team in turmoil

Binh Dinh Club's relegation marks another sad milestone for Central football in the V-League.

Binh Dinh Club says goodbye to V-League: Inevitable

Binh Dinh Club received a direct relegation ticket after losing 2-4 to Hanoi at home in the final round of V-League.

After many ups and downs, Binh Dinh football returned to the first division with a bleak future. No one, even the members of Binh Dinh Club, can know where the team will go next season.

Not to mention the possibility of merging the team due to the merger of provinces (Binh Dinh province will merge with Gia Lai province to form a new province, still keeping the name Gia Lai), the future of Binh Dinh Club is already unpredictable, due to the familiar difficulty in V-League: money.

4 years ago, Binh Dinh Club received a huge amount of money from a business. With an investment source said to be up to 100 billion VND/year, the martial arts team brought in a series of stars and recruited coach Nguyen Duc Thang. Binh Dinh Team at that time was jokingly called "Vietnam's PSG" because of their willingness to spend.

The peak of Binh Dinh Club was in the 2022 season with the runner-up position in the National Cup and third place in the V-League. By the last season (2023 - 2024), although the money was running out, but with determination and the remaining stars under the direction of coach Bui Doan Quang Huy, Binh Dinh still finished second in the V-League.

However, the joy was short-lived. Binh Dinh FC went downhill this season and was relegated. The crisis lasted the whole season, although the team changed coaches and added players, but still only won 1 of the last 17 matches.

The relegation of Binh Dinh FC probably does not surprise many people anymore. An "empire" built with money will inevitably collapse when it runs out of money.

Binh Dinh football lacks a foundation for youth training, has no tradition, and has not built trust in the rare years when a lot of money is poured in. This team just spends a lot of money from businesses. Then when the money runs out, everyone leaves.

Central football struggling

3 teams have to compete to avoid relegation until the last day, sadly, they are 3 teams from the Central region.

In addition to the relegation ticket for Binh Dinh, Da Nang Club and Quang Nam Club also have to struggle to survive.

Quang Nam FC barely survived relegation thanks to a controversial penalty in the last minute. With a team that is also superficial in youth training, mainly using borrowed players, patching things up everywhere like Quang Nam FC, can it "live a miserable life" in V-League forever?

Da Nang FC will play the play-off match with Binh Phuoc FC. Overall, finishing 13th after being stuck at the bottom of the table for most of the season is a great effort for the Han River team. However, with a large source of players and investment, having to struggle to avoid relegation is also a sadness for Da Nang FC.

There is also a funny story between Quang Nam and Da Nang teams when they share each other's stadium. Last season, Quang Nam FC asked to rent Da Nang's Hoa Xuan stadium while Tam Ky stadium was being upgraded. This season, it is Hoa Xuan's turn to deteriorate, Da Nang FC has to rent Quang Nam's Tam Ky stadium.

Going to the football field is the minimum to maintain a club, but the teams can't even do it properly, no wonder football in the Central region is going downhill day by day.

In the first division, Hue FC was also relegated. With a weak player base, inadequate youth training and facilities, Hue football had to play in the second division next season.

For three consecutive years, the Central region teams have been relegated or had to play in the play-offs. Will next season be different?

Dry faith

The story of a business pouring money in for a few years and then suddenly "evaporating", leaving the team alone... has happened in many teams from V-League to first division.

For example, in the South, there used to be 3 football teams named Saigon that came and went in a flash, until now they have not left any trace in the flow of Vietnamese football.

V-League is not short of teams that constantly move, change names, open with great fanfare and then quietly close down. Businesses get tired of football and withdraw, while lucky players get their money back and don't have to go through the trouble of... collecting debts.

Only the audience's trust is eroded. Some people have to exclaim that although the team is located in the locality and has a local name, it is not known whether it plays for the fans or not.
