Located next to the Chay River, Mr. La Van Ha's family house has just completely collapsed due to riverbank erosion during the recent storm No. 10. This is a new house that his family has just completed and put into use not long ago, because the previous house was swept away in the flood caused by storm No. 3 ( YAGI ) in 2024.
Seeing his family's valuable assets collapse before his eyes, Mr. Ha could not help but feel heartbroken.
Mr. Ha sadly shared: “The riverbank used to be very far away, but it has been gradually eroding inwards. My family had to save up for a long time to build this house, and now it is gone. Every rainy season, the family suffers such heavy damage, it is difficult to restore it.”

Not far from Mr. Ha's house, Mrs. La Thi Tuyet's family has also lost sleep and appetite for the past few days.
Due to the impact of storm No. 10, rising water levels made the Chay River bank erosion even more severe; the river bank erosion dragged down the entire system of barns and outbuildings of her family. Cracks as long as a hand span also appeared more and more in the inner area, the risk of landslides could strike at any time.
Ms. Tuyet said: Storm No. 10 just passed, and now Storm No. 11 is coming. Since the flood, her whole family has been worried. Every time there is a storm forecast, the whole family feels restless, not knowing what to do. They just hope that the authorities will soon have a solution so that her family can live in peace.

According to the people of 2A Pho Rang village, they have lived here stably for many years. Previously, the riverbed was narrow, a few dozen meters from the house foundations, but since Phuc Long hydropower plant stored water to generate electricity, subsidence and landslides began to appear more frequently.
Every rainy season, river water rises and recedes slowly, causing weak ground, accompanied by subsidence and landslides.

According to statistics, the recent flood caused a lot of damage to people and property in the area. Among them, 11 houses collapsed, 27 houses were flooded. In particular, heavy rains combined with the hydroelectric dam's flood discharge caused the water level of the Chay River to rise, causing many residential areas along the river to be deeply flooded.
After the water receded, many landslides appeared, affecting people's lives. To ensure safety, local authorities checked and mobilized households in dangerous areas to move to safe places.
Ms. Dang Thi Hong Nhung, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Bao Yen Commune, said: In the immediate future, the commune will mobilize forces to support people in evacuating their houses and properties from areas at risk of landslides. After that, they will continue to survey and mobilize people to move to a new, safer location.

Despite suffering a lot of property damage, according to many affected households, at present there is still no feasible solution to overcome this situation.
Landslides and subsidence are still happening, increasingly affecting the property and lives of people here, and it is unknown when they will be completely resolved.
