Authorities support Yen Nhan commune to recover from floods.
According to previous reports from local authorities, storm No. 5 caused major damage in Yen Nhan commune. Heavy rains caused landslides into houses, severely damaging roads and the power transmission system. The entire commune had 126 households with damaged houses, of which 22 houses collapsed completely, 58 houses were severely damaged; 527 households in Khong and My villages... were isolated for many days. In Bat Mot commune, 35 households with 131 people had to be urgently evacuated and are still in temporary shelters. Traffic, electricity, telecommunications, commune offices and many other civil works were severely affected, causing people's lives to fall into a difficult situation.
In early September, returning to the flooded area of Yen Nhan commune, it can be seen that the work to overcome the consequences of the landslide on National Highway 47 is still being carried out by the functional forces. Machinery was mobilized, along with dozens of police and military officers and soldiers coordinating with local authorities and people to clean up mud, move property, and ensure on-site logistics. Many relief teams, social organizations and philanthropists were also present in time, bringing rice, instant noodles, drinking water, clothes... to support people, helping to initially stabilize their lives.
In Chieng village, Yen Nhan commune, nearly 50km from the commune center, the devastation after the flood is still evident. Rocks and trees are scattered, many houses only have their foundations left. The village has 5 households whose houses were completely swept away by the flood, 14 households whose houses were partially collapsed. The entire area of crops and fish ponds were damaged or lost... Faced with that situation, the Provincial Military Command mobilized forces to divide into small groups of 3 to 5 people to directly go to each household to support. Hundreds of stilt houses were buried up to 2 meters deep in mud, making it impossible to bring in machinery, forcing soldiers and militia to use shovels, wheelbarrows, and wooden stretchers to transport rocks and soil out. The work was hard and manual, but it was the only way to free the houses and find safe shelter for the people.
Sharing with us, Mr. Luong Thanh Bang in Khong village, Yen Nhan commune, whose house was swept away by the flood, choked up: "Since the flood came, everything has been lost, from the house to the fields and crops. The whole family has had to stay at relatives' houses, now we don't know what to make a living, and we don't know when we can rebuild our house to live in." That confession is the common feeling of many households in the flood area, when they are still facing many difficulties.
Mr. Quach The Thuan, Chairman of Yen Nhan Commune People's Committee, shared: After the flood, not only are we worried about rebuilding houses and schools, but the bigger concern is the environment and long-term livelihoods of the people. Dozens of hectares of fields and crops were silted up, the canal system was severely damaged, and production could not be restored. Without timely solutions, the lives of many households will become more difficult when they lose their main source of income. "The risk of disease is present. Garbage and carcasses left after the flood, and the source of domestic water is heavily polluted, directly threatening public health. Environmental sanitation, disinfection, and clean water supply have been and are being urgently implemented, but still face many obstacles," Mr. Thuan added.
Faced with that situation, on August 31, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2951/QD-UBND approving the budget estimate to support overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in Yen Nhan and Bat Mot communes. The total budget of more than 4 billion VND was taken from the provincial budget reserve fund in 2025. On September 4, Comrade Nguyen Doan Anh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, directly inspected and directed the work of overcoming the consequences in Yen Nhan and Bat Mot communes. He emphasized the urgent task of focusing all resources to stabilize housing for people; at the same time, rebuild essential infrastructure, and promptly arrange resettlement areas in safe locations. The Provincial Party Secretary also requested the Party Committees and authorities of the two communes to closely coordinate with the forces, promote the spirit of self-reliance, and at the same time seek support from the province, departments, branches and social organizations to restore production and ensure people's lives.
Timely support and guidance, along with the community's cooperation, have motivated local authorities and people in flood-affected areas to overcome difficulties. Although the road back to normal life is still arduous, with determination and unity, faith in a new life after the flood is gradually being restored.
