Meritorious Artist Hoang Hai had to work many jobs before returning to acting. He denied that he was a tycoon, saying only that he had "enough to eat, enough to spend" and could take care of his four children.
Artist Hoang Hai (born 1968) is remembered by the audience for his role as Lieutenant Tran Minh in the long-running series Criminal Police, Hai in The Road of Life, Luu "nat" in Life is Still Beautiful, and Deputy Quang in the recent War Without Borders.
In 2012, he was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist (NSUT) by the State.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Meritorious Artist Hoang Hai said that in the late 1990s, when his actor's salary was low, he left Hanoi Drama Theater to start a career in Da Nang.
The male artist confided that those were difficult months when he went to sell pigs, but half of them got sick and died. When he went to sell peanuts and beans, he could not cross the ferry because of the storm, so he had to rent a tarpaulin to cover them.
When he turned them over, half of the beans had sprouted. When he arrived in Hanoi, he sifted through each bag, trying to sell them for whatever he could get.
One year, the artist went to the Chinese border to buy muslin fabric to sell at Con market ( Da Nang ) but imported the wrong color so the goods did not sell.
After five or seven failed business ventures, losing several taels of gold, Hoang Hai went to work as an ironworker in Buon Ma Thuot, then became a long-distance truck driver.
He said, those emotions and ups and downs of life, those "ups and downs" - once experienced, one will see how interesting life is, and how it can forge one into a brave and strong person.
Hoang Hai said that it was director Quoc Trong who brought him back to acting. He said that one day, while he was transporting goods, director Quoc Trong came all the way to Da Nang to find him and invited him to participate in the movie Mother's Legend.
Since then, he has been continuously receiving invitations to make films. Just like that, the male artist was drawn in and could not stop acting.
"Maybe the profession chose me because at that time the economy was difficult, I had to take care of everything for my family, I thought I would finish the film and then go home, but after this film, I got an invitation from another film, making it impossible for me to quit. I feel happy that the profession loves me and hasn't let me quit the profession," he confided.
Meritorious Artist Hoang Hai said that the artist is always loved by the audience, so wherever he goes, he is recognized and favored. Once, when he flew from Hanoi to Da Nang, when he passed the ticket gate, the security officer recognized him and said loudly: "Ah, Mr. Luu "nat"" and asked to take a photo. He said that was the sincere affection of everyone that he would never forget.

After many ups and downs, the artist now has a happy life with his wife, 4 children and grandchildren. His eldest son and daughter are married. The artist chose to live in Da Nang, and every time he films a new film, he packs up and goes to Hanoi.
During the most difficult days, his wife always accompanied and was a solid support for Meritorious Artist Hoang Hai. Later, when life was better, the male artist returned to the screen, his wife also sacrificed, retired to take care of the house and children so that her husband could concentrate on his art.
Filming, he constantly has to travel back and forth between Hanoi and Da Nang, but his wife is used to it and has never had to worry about her husband. The actor also often acts with many young and beautiful actresses, but his wife is always at ease and has never been jealous.
A reporter asked Hoang Hai: "Is it true that there are rumors that you are a real estate tycoon and spend money "without thinking"? The male artist shared: "People say that, but I only have enough to eat. I have a little "so-called" enough to take care of my 4 children's education. I am a sentimental tycoon, with many children and grandchildren."
The male artist said that his two older children are married and live on their own, and occasionally bring their grandchildren to visit their grandparents. He loves playing with his grandchildren, that is his most relaxing time.
"My house is 3 km from the sea so the atmosphere is very nice. In my free time, when I'm not making movies, I often meet friends. I also like children, playing with my grandchildren is even more fun. We want our children to be independent so we let them live separately so they can "swim on their own", our parents only support them "hiddenly", he said.
