On the evening of January 6, the Xom Kich Theater, directed by Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang, presented the classic play "Notre Dame Cathedral" (adapted from the novel "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" by writer Victor Hugo) - a new work by Khang Entertainment Company.

The audience cheered on each scene of the young actors, because for those who love classical drama, the good performances in the play took them back to the previous century, to "live" with the characters and share their feelings.

The play is set in Paris in 1482. Here, poor poet Pierre Gringoire recounts the story he witnessed.

A group of homeless Bohemians led by Clopin came to the gates of Notre Dame Cathedral seeking shelter, causing annoyance to Archdeacon Frollo. He asked Phoeus, the head of the royal archers, to expel them.

The classic play made a beautiful impression with the efforts of a young and dedicated cast.

And unable to stop the captain's amorous heart, Phoebus fell in love with a beautiful young girl named Esméralda in the Gypsy group even though he already had a lover and was about to marry the noble woman.

The archdeacon orders Quasimodo, the ugly bell-ringer, to kidnap Esméralda. Quasimodo, loyal to Frollo, obeys but fails and is captured by Phoebus.

The character designs are very beautiful, creating attraction and appeal for the audience when coming to the play "Notre Dame Cathedral".

Quasimodo endured being bound hand and foot. He cried out for water, but no one paid any attention, except Esméralda, who unexpectedly brought him water. Quasimodo was released, and they became friends, a sacred friendship that the hunchback bell-ringer at Notre Dame cherished.

The best scene is the scene where Frollo uses torture to force Esméralda to confess and sentence her to hang for killing the amorous captain. And ironically, the archdeacon forces Esméralda to love him if she wants to live.

Esméralda was disgusted by the cruel nature of the vice-bishop, and was rescued by Quasimodo, who took her to Notre Dame Cathedral.

But she herself could not escape death due to human selfishness and hatred. Only Quasimodo's love was beautiful, although he had the appearance of a beast, but contained a heart full of pride.

Choosing to stage a classical work for a young cast is the way that director Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang wants his students to improve. Although they are still inexperienced and have many stumbling blocks, they all exude the spirit of loving classical drama and choosing this difficult path to take.

Because, after the graduation report, they were lucky to continue to accompany their teacher, performing many plays with serious investment at the Xom Kich Stage, Ho Chi Minh City Dance School and a new performance venue that will open on January 27, which is the Smile Theater (No. 6 Huyen Tran Cong Chua, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City - located in the campus of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Culture Palace).

Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang shared: "I have experienced the period after studying, graduating and being unemployed. So I understand the feelings of young actors. Now, finding a place to perform and compete in talent is extremely difficult. Therefore, despite the hardship, my wife - artist Hoang Thy and I still accompany them, creating venues for them to reach the audience."

Experts highly appreciate the efforts of the couple Meritorious Artist Vu Xuan Trang - Artist Hoang Thy. Writer - Director Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc commented on her students: "Both are the "craziest" and "daring" people in the theater industry today. While other people are producers looking for stars to sell tickets, the two of them choose to invest in young actors. I think that is a cute and very necessary "craziness".

Because we do not dare to invest in the young generation, how can we have successors? Because, among the young people, there will certainly be some who will become stars. The problem is that we need a training environment for them, and Vu Xuan Trang and Hoang Thy are doing that" - writer and director Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc said.
